to me, if it's a small boat, sit close to the water, no sick. If it's a big boat (especially ocean), way higher than the water level, sick real bad. In that case the only thing works for me is the pills

Bonine.
I've tried the dramamine too and didn't like it.
One bonine the night before, and then one a day while on the water, no drowsiness, or bad taste. No prescription needed.

I boat every weekend in the summer - I recommend the bonine - less drowsiness. Usually the dramamine and beer makes my crew very sleepy...

I also recommend you stay near the bridge - with your eyes on the horizon - stand up if you can. It helps

i will NEVER forget kneeling at the back of the boat in the waters off Mazatlan staring at that beautiful blue water with my knees on the swordfish that had recently been boated....blood washing all over my shoes and puke washing all over the side of the boat...and my hands when the swells hit just right...

NEVER AGAIN.

time has never passed so slowly for me.

My experince too. I think everyone needs to try the various products and find the ones that work for them.

For me it is Bonine (meclizine) before, and crackers and ginger ale for acute symptoms. Dramamine works but makes me tried and the wrist bands seem on work by having me focus on something else.

+1 There is less movement at the stern of the boat than anywhere else.;)
I don't know how far offshore you will go, but the people who huddle up inside the cabin tend to become sick more than the people who stay outside in the fresh air.
Don't watch the floor, or the swells near the boat, they move around too much, and don't dwell on thoughts of getting sick. If you think that you are going to be sick, there's a good chance you probably will. Go out there, and have fun.

What will you be fishing for?

Only problem about the rear of the boat is that this is where you get a lot of fumes, which do not help being sick.
