Tire Rack Street Survival School
KNOW A YOUNG DRIVER?
HELP THEM BE A BETTER DRIVER! Sign Them up for the March 14th Session of the STREET SURVIVAL SCHOOL ![]() IT’S NOT JUST ABOUT DRIVING … IT’S ABOUT LIVING Last year, over 6,000 teenagers died in motor vehicle crashes, the leading killer of American youths aged 16 to 19, accounting for more than 40% of fatalities in that age bracket. To reduce this number, Tire Rack Street Survival® has developed a non-profit, national driver education program aimed at teaching teens the skills they need to stay alive behind the wheel. LIFE-SAVING TEEN DRIVING PROGAM COMING TO PORTLAND On Sunday, March 14 in the South Paddock of Portland International Raceway, the Oregon Region of SCCA, with support from the Oregon Region Porsche Club of America, Friends of PIR, the BMW Club of America Foundation, and the SCCA Foundation will hold a Tire Rack Street Survival® School. During this class, students won't just sit in a classroom listening to a boring lecture; they will gain valuable new skills to improve their driving techniques on the road. They will be behind the wheel of their own cars, driving through real-world exercises with an instructor in the next seat to provide immediate feedback. THE FIRST TIME YOUR TEENAGER LEARNS HOW TO “TURN INTO THE DIRECTION OF A SKID” SHOULD NOT BE ON A WET ROAD AT NIGHT This is NOT a speed event; no helmets will be worn, cars will NOT be driven on the race track – this class is 100% focused on teaching young drivers car control techniques for safer street driving. Students will be gaining some valuable skills to improve their driving techniques on the road at the Tire Rack Street Survival® School. Parents are welcome to attend the school all day, if they wish. They will be able to listen to the instructor in the classroom and the coaches will be available throughout the day to answer any questions they might have about the course exercises you are going through. LEARN LIFE SAVING DEFENSIVE DRIVING SKILLS FOR ONLY $75 Due to the generous sponsorship of the Tire Rack, the BMW Club of America Foundation, and the Sports Car Club of America Foundation – along with 100% local racing community volunteer instructors – the total out of pocket cost to a student is only $75! Any licensed driver aged 16 -21 is eligible to participate. Students must supply their own vehicle in safe, running condition, along with proof of insurance, and a valid driver’s license. Students with valid learning permits and a minimum of 6 months driving experience are also allowed to participate. Based on available space, drivers aged 21 – 24 are welcome to sign-up. Spaces are strictly limited so please sign up soon at Street Survival - Teaching Your Teen Driver to Survive From Behind the Wheel by following the link to School Schedule/Registration. Questions can be e-mailed to Jim Weidenbaum at streetsurvivalpdx@hotmail.com or Harry Danberg at 1973targa@comcast.net.

Isn't this the one you're an instructor for? I should sign my 18yo young playtoy up for this. She can't drive for squat.
Will you be making a stop in hell....errr....i mean Philly? |

I've put both my kids through this program - highly, highly recommended.
Panic stopping, evasive lane change, slalom and skidpad. Both my kids are better equipped to handle their first "real" driving emergency should it ever happen.

Sorry but they do not appear to have one near you. If you have some connections with the BMW Club or SCCA in your area they be willing to set one up. It is a great program and a shame for teens not to get access.

I would think so as my local event (in Portland, OR) is being hosted by the Oregon Region PCA Chapter.

4life - I'll bring it up with our board, too. Maybe a joint Warbonnet/Cimarron event?

I took the class in late September in NH. Excellent program... The best part was my instructor used to track a 951, so he knew the limits of my S2. I did learn a lot and I plan on going back in June and possible helping out as an instructor when I am older.

Nope, unless things have changed, PCA will not allow drivers under the age of 16..
