Leftovers - how old is too old

So excluding Seafood....

How many days will you save leftovers in the refrigerator before they get tossed?

m21sniper 01-28-2010 10:15 AM

I've been pondering the very same thing here as i stare lovingly at a 5 day old Arby's roast beef sandwich i found in the back of the fridge from last week.....

cstreit 01-28-2010 10:16 AM

You'll want option 5 then. :)

dd74 01-28-2010 10:17 AM

3 to 4

m21sniper 01-28-2010 10:17 AM

It looks good. It smells good.

Is it safe to eat?

It's been in it's never opened wrapper in a tightly rolled arby's bag. I can't believe i forgot i had it. I love these freakin' things! :D

I'm going for it!

Vaya con dios! SmileWavy

m21sniper 01-28-2010 10:23 AM

Well i ate it. I'll let you know in an hour how it went! :D

I think it was about 6 days old...

cstreit 01-28-2010 10:27 AM

"Dib's on Snipes spoons." In fact I think I'll start over there now. By the time I get there he'll be in a severely weakened condition. No sense in waiting 'till hes fully cold. :D

I'm not big on left overs, and it depends upon if they are left over from my cooking or a doggie bag.

If it's home cooking, then probably up to 5-6 days, but I always visually inspect and sniff. I guess it kind of depends upon what it is (type of food) and how much I like/want it too.

Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger!

I ate in the cafeteria in college. After that I found that just about anything prepared correctly can be considered edible.

m21sniper 01-28-2010 10:33 AM

Well, it didn't taste bad per se, but i do have a little bit of a headache now. I think that might just be from the loud music i have playing though.

Maybe i should turn it down some. :)

porsche4life 01-28-2010 10:33 AM

You left out the "It smells fine and doesn't have anything growing" option.... I'll still eat it....

Bill Douglas 01-28-2010 10:43 AM

Food poisoning nearly killed me a few years ago so I'm overly cautious about food. Next day, or it goes out with the rubbish.

boba 01-28-2010 10:51 AM

It's good to have 3 dogs.

9dreizig 01-28-2010 10:52 AM

What about a big pot of chili ?? if you keep heating it up then the clock gets re-set right ??

GH85Carrera 01-28-2010 10:55 AM

If you bring it all to a boil everytime.

m21sniper 01-28-2010 10:57 AM

Well i'm still alive and not feeling ill.

6 days if refrigerated and wrapped is good for an Arby's roast beef sandwich- Verified.

jyl 01-28-2010 11:06 AM

I keep my refrigerator at 32F in the center shelf, some spots are 30F, so stuff usually gets dehydrated or damaged from semi-freezing before it actually "goes bad".

Thus, no particular time limit. If it still looks okay, I'll eat it. 1-2 weeks routinely, maybe done 3 weeks on occasion.

cgarr 01-28-2010 11:13 AM

Is this a private poll?

red-beard 01-28-2010 11:20 AM

It depends. Usually 7 days is max on home cooked food, with soup being an exception. If you bring it to a boil for 15 minutes, and it had been refrigerated, it should be fine for even 10 days.
