Was that the Ducati owner swearing at the guy helping push the mess off the highway? If it was, and it was me, I would walk away immediately and let him push it himself, crushed nuts or not.

You're right: asshattery with a dash of douchbaggery.
Still, I'm very pleased to have grown up in the pre-YouTube era. (Glad my youthful indiscretions are not all out there.) |
you cannot confirm douchebaggery without looking at the guy for evidence of a spray on tan.

I am relieved as well that some of my lesser moments of clarity and discretion with things motorized were not captured for the world to see. I put the um in dumb. |

I think a lot of us are lucky to have survived those years. The advent of motorized travel certainly raised the stakes for restless young men running on testosterone, trying to prove to themselves they are the manlier men. The modern sportbike is the ultimate expression of that, with mistakes being punished far more severely than in generations past. On a very sobering note, these two young men were (yes, "were") motojournalists for the British publication FastBike. Word in sportbike circles is one is confirmed dead already, with the other suspected dead, although unconfirmed. Killed riding in precisely this manner, on public roads. |

Wow. Laughing about the death of two morons. Life is cheap.

they didnt die, did they? video was too long for my attention span. silver lining...those fools could ride! i used to go on our bay area "sunday morning rides" regularly. very early morning, very little traffic. hundreds of us, various riding skills. i was mid pack. seen some crazy talent, injuries..kid hit a cow once. |
Post # 26 suggests that they died later, riding in a similar fashion. No surprise, but certainly nothing to laugh at.

The good (?) thing about irresponsible motorcyclists is that they usually end up killing only themselves. |
jeez, they died? i got to where they were helping each other off the road, very much alive.

ok, i will finish the video at home.

The crash captured on this video neither killed, nor very seriously injured either one of them. They both lived to fight another day. Unfortunately, they were apparently both rather slow learners. The dialog in this video indicates one had just broken his back two months prior to filming. I wonder how many months after this filming the first one checked out. What a sad, needless waste.
How about a real talent, doing it (relatively) safely and sanely on a closed course? Unbelievable: YouTube - Steve Plater TT'09 Onboard in race |

2nd BTW, if a total moron continually attempts to commit suicide by stupidity, while endangering innocent people around him, then yes. His life isn't worth that much. The world is better off without people who are that reckless and don't give a crap about anyone else's safety. |

Even the really fast guys, like McGuinness, Plater, Martin, and company say it takes a good week of practice to acclimate to the speed. And they actually live there, with access to the course every day. There is no speed limit any time of the year, so they can ride it as quickly as they like when they like. Nothing like race pace, though, and as well as they know every corner, every crack, every leaf left laying on the 37 mile circut, they still have to sneak up on it. Brave or insane? Jackie Stewart once said "it takes a certain lack of imagination to be a racing car driver". I would submit even more so to ride the TT. |
