dealing with sea sickness.

my office is arranging a fishing trip. sometimes that is all they seem to talk about. squid? anyways, i dont know when they want to go. i am about 70% fine, everytime i go. i sometimes get sick, but when i do...it is brutal. i cant seem to determine why i do or do not get sick. ocean seems pretty choppy everytime i go. and those pink pills make me sleepy.
tips for a land-dweller?

The thing I hate most about choppy seas is that it makes it hard to get the beer in my mouth.

No problem. Go to your doc and get a scopolamine patch. It's the little white patch you see behind people's ears sometimes if you've been on a cruise, etc.
Get a few of'em, they have a long shelf life.
Put it on the day before and you'll be right as rain.
It can cause a little drowsiness apparently, but I never noticed, and for comparison, those pink pills, dramamine, turn me into a complete zombie also.
You can also get meclizine, which is less drowsy than dramamine, but it's got some drug warnings/considerations.

sea sickness

ginger cookies, ginger chocolate, ginger tea.
My wife used the Sea band, which is a wrist band and it pushes on some nerves and she never was motion sick when she used them.
She also used them when she had chimo treatment.

I take two Dramamine the night before and two the morning of. I don't seem to have a problem being tired from the Dramamine if I also take it the night before. Bring a bunch of sandwiches cut in half, chips, etc so that way you can constantly snack and keep a full stomach while you are on the boat (this helps me more than the pills).

AHH YES!!! Mai Tai's on a cruise are the bomb!

I forgot, wash your hands after you apply the scope patch! If you touch your eye the drug will cause your pupil to dilate so much there won't be a colored portion of your eye visible. Lasts for hours and if it's only one eye it looks SCARY! Fun Fact.

My wife put on one of the patches, then put in her contacts, later she had her sunglasses off and when I looked at her, Holy *&%(&#&%$#%!!!!! I thought she had suffered a stroke or something.

THIS WORKS the other comments may or may not work for you. The patch also works well when you’re instructing a student and he is throwing you around the track.

+1 - I tried the patch on a 3 day live aboard dive trip - I didn't like it - I felt "off" and had a very metallic taste in my mouth.
