I'm loving this season so far. Incredible young talent all around the league.

Although one thing I hate is reviewable offside. There are goals being disallowed because a skate blade is an inch off the ice. Its ridiculous. The linesmen RARELY blow a blatant offside call.

I'm glad the league made that change last year where a failed offside challenge resulted in a penalty. Last year and this year we see less of those damn challenges.

Also, two or three years ago there was nothing to lose in challenging an OT winner for offsides. Really takes the "thrill" (or disappointment) out of the OT winner when you have to wait 4 or 5 minutes for the official result even if it was hardly in doubt.

Really, please don't make the NHL like the NFL where the Refs are the "third opponent." Some NFL games are unwatchable with all the penalties.

Oh, and cool pic

Re: Challenging of on-ice calls - one for our buddy Flatbutt; Goal tender interference - another 'sticky wicket'
- does that almost qualify as a mixed metaphor?

Cheers

HA! It can be. I think a goalie can and should be called for diving when they go down after being breathed on but there are certainly legit calls, remember Sean Avery?

It used to be that the paint was inviolate, but guys are in there all of the time now, even when the shot is taken, is that interference?

If somebody screened me by standing in front of me, a quick kick on their heel usually put them on their butt and I NEVER got called for it.

With the new floppy style of keeping it's harder to get an interference call unless they're laying on top of you.

edit: oh and as for fighting, this new style of dancing around is just that. If somebody fouled me there was no dance, my guys just jumped on the perp and pummeled him into the ice.

There were some goalies that seemed to have no problem cleaning up the neighborhood. In the first one, Tim Thomas goes and chases Avery down!
