need a boot review...blundstones?

i am on my third pair of irish setter, pull-ons. they are torn up. bought my last two pairs at the same time...$69 each. looked them up, and now they are $110. they are not that great...what is the deal with teh blundstone boots? any good?

No way I am going to pay more than $20 for something that's put together in the PRC.

I just got the Meindl Ibex boots from Cabelas. Made in Germany. Lightly insulated boot - gore tex - excellent support and very light considering a full boot. My hunting buddies all swear by these and I am also impressed. They were $159 + shipping, using a $20 coupon.

let me be more specific. i am not talking about hiking/hunting boots. i want non-lace, grab and go..slip ons for daily wear. i wear steel toes at work, i just need slip ons for the commute to work.

I just saw your name and boots in the headline, I didn't even think about the possibility these would NOT be for hunting. ;)

where do you even get a $20 coupon from cabelas?

gprsh924 02-01-2010 10:22 AM

Anytime you are going to buy from a website, search around on google for a coupon code you can use. You can find ones most of the time. I just booked my hotel for spring break and found a 10% off Hotels.com coupon that saved me over $40.

They sent it out but also had it right there on their web site. It is expired. It was $20 off any item over $100.

I am trying hard to buy quality items that last, especially on things I depend on and use a lot. Cabelas has a lifetime warranty on all items that carry their name.

I had to find out that Dr. Martens are now made in the PRC too. :( WTF?

It is interesting to me that you can make boots in Germany and sell them in the US for $180 making a profit. OTOH there are Danners and other brands that cost the same and are made in the PRC. Either it is getting more expensive to produce in the PRC or someone is getting very very rich ...

I didn't care for them -- I have a relatively flat and narrow foot, and didn't find them at all comfortable. I'm in the minority, though, as most people I know really like them.

I have been wearing Blunnies since about 1993, great pull-on, very well made. Older they get, better they look!
Recently they have moved production from Australia to China, I do not know how it affected quality. I purchased a bunch from the old stock. Check with Sugar River Outfitters.

i wear blundstone boots. i have had 1 pair only. bought them in 1990 and still wear them and have been wearing them almost every day for 20 years. the sole has only just worn out and gotten very hard...very slippery on ice now. but i love them. went to buy a new pair recently and learned they, like Dr. Marten, have started making them in China or some place in asia which annoyed me. they are not nearly as comfortable as dr. martens but they are ok, look great and have lasted forever and i love no laces....

I have a pair of Blundstones, and have had them for 3 or 4 years. They do get more comfortable with time. That said, Timberland makes a very fine copy that is cheaper and comfortable from day one.

You might try LL Bean's Chelsea boot...very rugged yet comfortable. Come in suede or brown leather. About $100
