What's a cool classic (not Woody) car for surf?

I want a new ride to put my surfboard on this summer and all the cars I really want I think I'd destroy with all the salt associated with the so-called, cough, cough, surfing "lifestyle." Nonetheless, I wanted to see if you guys think there's a car among my hoped-for few that I could somehow rust-proof enuf to make it last a good little while. I mean, when I see rust, can't I slap a little anti-rust goop on it and hope it goes away, ha ha? Or, isn't there some solution that'll let me get the car I want and not have it melt in front of my eyes? Or is one of these cars more likely to hold up better'n the others?

Sadly, I live in the Northeast, salt central. But I would travel *anywhere* in the US of A to get the right car, strictly on a fly/buy/drive basis so whatever it is would have to be in pretty good shape to get me back home.

Naturally, I'd like the cheapest car possible, but when I start thinking Porsche, well, all bets are off.

And Im the world's worst wrench, so that needs to be taken into account.

Here's what I'm thinking:

1/ BMW 2002. Probably my first choice.

2/ VW fastback or squareback. There's a SQ near me for sale but it's in such good condition that I can't bring myself to even look at it, knowing what it'd happen to it if I became it's new owner. (Hey, I have a conscience!)

3/ Mercedes 250c and the like. Cool!

4/ Porsche 911. Probably my first choice, too, but in a different price range category. And for that I'd probably pay up for an SC or 84-88 Carrera.

So, what do you think? BTW/ these are the only cars that speak to me, so it's either them or none.

I do surf. Um, I dont care if it looks cool with a board on top; I just want to know of the four cool cars I mentioned, which is likely to last the longest given a saltwater environment. Could be none of them. Or maybe there's something I can do to extend the longevity of such a car?

I now realize that I've mistitled the thread, damnit. Any way to change it?

Now we're talking, low..., but what about the rust? Given where I live, and the saltwater I'm going to be sloshing around the thing, aren't I just going to destroy the thing lickety split?

Or maybe I should just drive the snot out of it and not worry about what's going in places I can't see.

356 Speedster. There is nothing that oozes cool more than a Speedster with a board tucked in it.

Just wash it after coming back from the beach.

Vista Cruiser Wagon -- totally freaking cool, but it'll have to wait until I get one of these others out of my system. But, yes, great suggestion!

Toyota FJ60 or 62 Landcruiser. You can pick them up cheap, easy to work on and will run forever.

Try rinsing your stuff off and leave the windows cracked open so the steam, created by the heat (sunshine), doesn't vaporize the interior.
