JAX for 5 days in March . . .
I opened my big mouth & now I will be wintering for 5 days in Jacksonville, FL for the Axpona hifi show. It is runs Mar 5-7 but I arrive on the 3rd. Since I will be doing the show solo (a low budget event) I should have an evening or 2 free.
Anybody up for a gathering? Byron? Anybody else? I also need some restaurant suggestions. I can probably wrangle free show admission too if you want to see some propeller-head hifi . . . Ian |
Bet that Byron can show you just about anything in Jax...
|
What is there to show? I'm from there...ummm...the Hooters at Goodby's Marina has always been my favorite one, though I do like the one at Jax beach as well.

I assume it will be a scaled-down version of the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest - a consumer show which has been attracting the hifi high enders to Denver for several years. An interesting crowd with a high dweeb count is what I anticipate. This is the 1st year so I am just sticking my toe in the water - so to speak. Ian |
Believe that Mike is trying to say that there is not much to see in Jax itself. Betting that Byron might have other ideas on this! :)
|
I hear you. I have been to JAX numerous times over the last couple of decades so I know what I am getting into. :D
Ian |
Well, you could drive down to Daytona on the 4th and be in the middle of Bike Week:eek:
|
Man you missed Amelia Island Concours by one week!!

The Down town area is getting a better night life, and you can take the Water Taxi to the Landing & other side of the river, plus San Marco is very close & has a decent night life, but for the best, you will need to head to the beach for the best night life... Are you showing or buying?? I should be around to join you...

Hi Byron
I will be exhibiting. PM your last name & I will get you registered for N/C entry. I have only seen JAX beach from the 30K feet. I routinely see it out of the window flying to Miami. Ian |

Ha. Ha. Ha. Thanks. The old 'fluff at the door'. I know, I know it really works too. We used to hire off-duty FA's during shows in Vegas & our booth was packed accordingly. My current boss is somewhat more conservative.
No, this is a low budget 'toe in the water' show for us since it is new. I have no idea how busy I will be. And besides, I am in a 13 x 18 bedroom on the 2nd floor demoing a system (I know, I know all the MORE reason :D ). Hmmm . . . Ian |
I used to play guitar (and drink heavily) at the west inn cantina back in the day on Wednesday nights for open mic night. Lived in the riverside and mandarin areas for years. My Grandparents and Uncle still do.
I had been fishing those beaches my entire life up until I moved out of Florida in 2000/2001. Dad's in Tampa now so I usually base my florida trips there and just head up to Jax for a day or so. |
Make you way out to Mayport and find the run down restaurant that looks like three trailers put together. Best seafood around. Don't try and get on the Navel base unless you have mil ID. Before 9/11 you could go in and get a good look at the ships.
