My new dessert spoon

This is my new Star PD in .45ACP that was purchased new in .78 by my father and never fired until last Saturday. I greased it up pretty well before firing it for the 1st time and it was nice to shoot! I used 230gr FMJ, then switched to some 185gr FMJ that I handloaded using a very light powder charge and the gun functioned perfectly. The recoil is manageable (my wife even fired it) and it's accurate. I've heard reports of hammer bite, cracked slides and failed recoil buffers, so I'll be careful with it and enjoy range time shooting it and my S&W Model 645.

I don't think shooting a .78 caliber handgun would be very much fun at all...

I really like this pistol. The light alloy frame calls for a lighter load than 230gr, but it shoots well with minimal recoil.

230's drop like rocks so that is just as well. I prefer 185's in my .45

Yep, I like to load and shoot 185gr Berry's plated bullets in .45ACP.

When i carried a .45 i was very partial to 165gr Cor Bon +P at about 1250fps for CCW (570fpe).

Very powerful round with the absolute flattest trajectory possible in .45acp.

They make that load in the improved powrball line now:

The Remington 185gr +P is the best CCW round for a stock 1911 type pistol. It is specifically designed to mimic the feeding profile of ball ammo, yet still achieves nearly 600fpe of energy in a stock 5" length Government model barrel.

+P is definitely the way to go in .45ACP IMO, as some of it is nearly 2x as powerful as the classical GI .45 load of 230gr FMJ at 830fps (approx 370fpe).
