Try Portillo's. Chicago chain with two locations in Socal. They are in my opinion the best around Chicago, fast food burgers that is. I've had In & Out, it's been several years though.

I'm an In and Out fan but there are better options out there:
Tioli's Crazee Burger (San Diego) Fat Burger (San Marcos?) Southwestern Steakburger (San Diego) Marie's Cafe (San Diego) |

For In and Out you can call this number and they will tell you where the closest location is and give you directions. Has been great to have on my speed dial when I'm on the way back from the track and don't feel like circling around town with the motorhome and trailer looking for an In and Out:

Back in the day it was Dick's, Burgermaster, and Kidd Valley (in that order IMO). The next time I go back "home" I want to try this place: Lunchbox Laboratory - Ballard - Seattle, WA |

ALWAYS, the burgers are crappy skinny things, the service is bad, the lines are absurd, and the fries are only OK. They put some kinda drugs in the Cali water, since it seems that 99% of them actually actively WANT to go there for bad burgers and bad service. People who speeddial the office to find the nearest one?? ![]() Wataburger is better, Carl's Jr is better still. Even Burger King had better burgers and fries.

Isn't that the place where the chef is like the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld? No ketchup! If you don't want cheese take it off the burger yourself. And the chef is a wristwatch freak from memory.

yes. His name is sang. He's a dick in my eyes as well as a few other chef friends of mine. Other than that I think he puts out a good burger.
And yes no ketchup or subs. That doesn't make him a duck. Only the disrespect to his peers. That said I still went there. As I lived around the block from there. Beer and wine are top notch. Quote:

Very different from a traditional burger and fries. Good though.

Steak and Shake. Steakburger and one of their chocolate shakes. Nothing better. Not In and Out, Not Dicks, though they are pretty good. Only 15 minutes from my new home. My Mom gets a giftcard every year for Xmas. And of course when I'm in town, have to take Mom there.

Dicks is good- while you're hammered..
I don't think I've ever eaten there sober. You feel like you ate a tub of butter after you're done with one or two. rjp

When I'm out west - it's In-N-Out for me
Up north - Culvers Home base in ATL - Steak n Shake, FatBurger or Five Guys My truck has a In-N-Out tag frame on it - I've had a lot of folks come up to excited asking if one was opening up in the Atlanta area.
