Calif Black plate JJZ109. '67 Mustang FB, 390 4-speed, American Mag wheels.

Amazing how good it still looks on the screen.

Streets of San Francisco. I grew up there as a kid, in the West Portal, on Ulloa Street, just above the N Judah line's tunnel.

Many years later, after college and a stint flying in the Navy, while running a large yacht, on the way to and from the Inside Passage to Cabo, I'd sit in Avalon, Catalina for both my and the crews' R&R.

I met a man who befriended me because of my passengers, and the fact that boat I ran was rather 'infamous'. Many afternoons there spent with the large boat captains, and a rather notorious poker game from time to time. John Wayne, Robert Wagner, among others would sit in with us captains and pass many an afternoon telling tales while playing the game of the day.

Our friendship went many years, I'd invite him and his wife Maggie to Cabo for a month or so as my guests, and we'd play dominoes, gin rummy or poker and sit in the morning sun and afternoon shade talking about everything. Both of our careers, mostly.

His name was Bill Hickman. Every time I see him on screen, as (George C. Scott's) Patton driver/adjutant, or as the Dodge Charger driver in Bullitt, or any of the many other car chase scenes he set up and did, I miss those days.

I was in harbor the night Natalie took a swim off of the fantail, was there the afternoon the Wild Goose came in for the last time with the ensign at half staff, all those images and stories inside my head, wanting to be told.

I wonder, would anyone ever want to read a book about all the close encounters over the years?

Bulitt is on AMC's 360 degrees of Oscar tonight.

P-car content? The beautiful canary 356 driven by some british dish who was McQueen's GF in the movie.

Jaqueline Bisset.

Tabby, I saw at least three other P-cars, including the 356S that was featured. The same Austen-Healy parked several times. Same VW Bug in several chase scenes. Same vehicles all over the city.

Winchester pump.

I think that you have an important part of the building blocks for a book with the interesting people you've met and the fun times in a cool job, etc

The problem becomes the fact that these things alone do not make for a compelling read as anyone who likes autobiographies or memoirs can attest to. Some of the most interesting people of the 20th century have lousy memoirs, IMO. This is not meant to discourage, you might be a hell of a storyteller for all I know. Just some reality.

Give it a shot and show it to someone in the know, not just friends who will not give an honest opinion.

U are observant...A Red Speedster parked from the front, a white 356 from the rear parked and the canary yellow 356 C cab..it had disc brakes.

Now what kind of shotgun...it is clearly visible in one of the scenes and they even mention the companies name in the movie.

Sounds like a book I'd like to read, but what is the significance of the title of your thread?

Those interested in the movie trivia can read more on this (strangely) German site:

The Mustang was a '68. Actually, two were used...
(edit) One survived. It's VIN is 8RO2S125559
