Oh well, was a very entertaining game. :)

It looked like Wayne broke off his route on the pick 6! Didn't it look like he stopped? And Manning led him, but he stopped, Joey Porter stepped in front of it and it's off to the races. They let a lot of opportunities slip away.

Yep, Wayne made a very lazy stop on that route. He did not play well at all.

Ya, I think the Saints will win as well. Don't tell me who won, I TEVO'd it and want to watch it tonight...

Jim Richards 02-08-2010 08:03 AM

I'm thinking the Saints will pull it off. Just a hunch.

Porter should get all the credit for that one. From an article by Mark Kriegel:

"Manning is an expert at disguising plays, but Saints cornerback Tracy Porter, who described his pre-game preparation as one of “excessive film study,” recognized it immediately. “I saw it over and over on film, it’s a big third down play for them,” he said. “…Once I saw Austin Collie go, I knew…Yeah, I had it in my mind to jump the route.”

He knew Reggie Wayne, the elder statesman of Manning’s decorated receiving corps, would run a slant inside. “A stick route,” he called it. He knew his safety, Darren Sharper, would have him covered from behind. Manning, not far from what seemed like a sure game-tying touchdown, would release the ball quickly.

Porter saw Wayne plant his feet and cut. In every respect, the defender would recall, the play unfolded “just like on film.” "

The flip side is had it been a double move, it would have been an easy deep bomb touchdown.

You're supposed to set corners up with double moves so they don't jump your slant routes. BTW, Wayne never made a cut, he just made a very lazy stop move.

island911 02-08-2010 02:14 PM

YOU did a flip?

island911 02-08-2010 02:16 PM

n'No, wait . . it's because the Chinese own New Orleans?

madmmac 02-08-2010 02:20 PM

I called it on Jan 18th.

Not a big surprise to me that the Saints won. In fact, I remember predicting the Saints would win it all somewhere around week 3 of the season. That didn't go over so well with the Dallas fans I was having dinner with, and I sure heard about it when NO got beat by the clownboys. I fudged on score prediction though, had it off by 7 apiece.

The National Football Post blog carried a story today that 11 whole people showed up at the Indy airport to greet the victorious, err, scratch that, also-ran Colts as they returned home from Miami.
