Who halftime show

So what's your opinion on the Who's halftime performance?

The Who was one of my favorite bands back in the 60's-70's, and I thought that Roger and Pete put on a good halftime show. It was kind of fun to read some of the comments on the YouTube link to the performance... Lots of youngsters dissing them as a bunch of old farts, while some diehard fans were doing their best to defend them. One comment in particular captured the spirit of the "debate" and had me rolling on the floor for some reason:

"Its incredible how stupid and ignorant ppl got nowadays. To the point of talking one of the last living rock´n´roll legends down. If those old men just squatted and erected their brown pyramids on that stage u should b grateful u got to see it. What theyve done so far is way beyond of what any of the pathetic bands u might like r ever gonna b able to do. If u cant b a normal person and respect them, b a genius by knowing u should pretend u do"

Oh man they're gettin' old....

Who cared? :p

If I was judging the WHO from tonight, I would never listen to them.

I thought the who where pretty good

I saw the WHO at the Metropolitan Sports Center (where the North Stars used to play) in Minneapolis in the mid 70's.

Granted I was a bunch younger then but compared to what I remember they were like in slow motion at the super bowl.

I love the Who's music but IMO, they need to be retired and living off their royalties. Time for the next gen artists.

Chocaholic 02-08-2010 02:29 AM

I thought they were pretty good. Hard to take them seriously though as they're clearly doing a nostalgia performance. Something about seeing a "working" band is more real. Like seeing them "back in the day".

Daltry sounded good. Townsend over-did his trademark arm swinging. Made me think it was mostly canned.

They sucked!

But I heard they already have Kate Smith booked for next year so that should be good.

After the "wardrobe malfunction" from a few years ago, we won't see anyone under the age of 50 on that halftime stage.

Matt, I think they have to stay away from the bimbo pop performers. Their music is only palatable because of the sexy wrapper. Take away that and it's lame beyond words.

No arguments here, God knows I don't care to see Britney Spears up there. But, there's a number of younger artists that are talented and not past their prime. I was the only person in my living room that's ever owned any Who CDs, but agreed that they didn't sound great.

Think the older half time artists has anything to do with the absurd ticket prices that hardly any younger people could afford?

Halm 02-08-2010 04:34 AM

I was never a big WHO fan, but that was so bad that I felt sorry for them.

VaSteve 02-08-2010 04:46 AM

I enjoyed it, but partly due to the light show and my new HD TV. There seemed to be a lot of "stray" notes from Townsend sprinkled in there, especially when they pulled the camera back.

Who was the bassist? Looked like maybe Pete's son?

ramonesfreak 02-08-2010 04:53 AM

no Entwistle and Moon makes it tough to play Who songs and the shortened songs didnt allow for Pete to cut loose..Ive always preferred the early raw Who sound..still rather see Pete up there than Janet Jackson or Rascal Flatts any day...but definitely it was not Live at Leeds

as a guitar player, i cant even imagine retaining the ability to play a song in front of 100 million people though...i would faint
