Xbox red ring of death, new record

So my Xbox that i just bought myself over xmas, the new and improved model with the bigger heatsink and external power supply....the one i have used a grand total of a half dozen times, for maybe 4 hours total... red ring of deathed on me last night.

Consider this my public service warning to you all:

Do not buy an Xbox360 for any price.

I had one a couple years ago. I sold it on eBay after about six months of play. The xBox seems to be very problematic. I'm glad I offloaded mine before it kaboomed.

It's amazing this product is still being put on shelves. I wonder if there is a class action suit underway that i can join.

LOL

I've read that as many as 1/2 of all xbox360s succumb to RROD.

I had an RROD too about five months ago. They replaced it with a new unit. Working fine, so far.

Yours is still under warranty sniper....

Mine and my room mates are both close to 3yrs old and neither of us have RROD and we play for hours on end...

I have only had one friend get the RROD and microsoft replaced it.....

m21sniper 02-08-2010 09:21 AM

Well they'll sure as fk be getting mine back soon.

ya know back in the day when i played pc video games the microsoft games were consistently the most problematic. to the point where a MS game had to be pretty damned fantastic before i'd be willing to take a chance on it.

It says there was a warranty extension of up to 3 years against the RROD. I don't know if it is still going or not.

I'm trying to get hold of the retailer i bought mine from now, see what they tell me.

Honestly, i'd just as soon make a video of me shooting it to fking pieces and put it on You Tube.

Mine RRoD'd on me a few months ago. It had been fairly reliable for about 2 1/2 years though.

Not that this excuses the poor production quality or the hardware problems themselves but Microsoft has extended the warranty on all Xbox 360s to 3 years for ANY RRoD problems. So if you get an RRoD it is covered basically. There are a couple of other issues that are also covered but the RRoD is the biggest. When yours is replaced I believe you end up with another 3 years for RRoD and another standard 1 year warranty for anything else. The new 360 that shows up on my account now shows the standard warranty coverage now.

Expect that when you call you will get someone in India. All of the folks I dealt with were very helpful, reasonably knowledgeable and sympathetic. Of course when I called I did not treat it as a life and death situation - some gamers don't feel the same way. some folks also don't like talking to the Indians...well...I don't mind so much. Sure I have problems with the whole outsourcing - in fact I recently dodged the bullet myself - well...I don't hold the company's choice against these people.

If you don't like outsourcing do business with someone else.

m21sniper 02-08-2010 01:56 PM

Indians don't really bother me.

I'm still waiting for the retailer to call back. If i don't hear back from him tomorrow i'll just call Microsuck directly.

"...high failure rates, with the latest estimate by warranty provider SquareTrade to be 23.7%[5], and the highest estimate being 54.2% by a Game Informer survey."

Are you F-in kidding me?! That is insane.
