Esperanza Spalding - Bass and Vocals
Flipping channels the other night, came across Austin City Limits and she was performing. Watched the entire show. Unusual enough to come across a female bass player. In this case, her bass playing is efforless, textured and very accomplished. Add to this, an original and (in my opinion) enchanting jazz voice.
If you haven't heard her, check this out. Just an acoustic bass and her vocals (performed at the whitehouse last spring): YouTube - The White House Unplugged Poetry Jam Esperanza Spalding Performs at the White House Poetry Jam
