Pelican Brain Trust; How do I appraise and sell a restored '57 GMC?
Vehicle is two owner car. Belongs to son (deeded) of original owner father.
15 year old resto, down to frame (powder coated), zero time rebuild of original engine (installed Pontiac by GMC), interior includes resto radio that camos a modern AM-FM-CD with power amp buried under seat. Everything done first class. Even wood bed refinshed with Verithane. Tires are showing age, the truck has less than 2k miles on the resto. Runs perfect, is driven every other month, always stored inside, under cover. What I need to do is find how to have it appraised, so a reserve of some kind can be established, and then either an eBay or national 'truck trader' kind of listing. Anyone have any ideas? Truck is in NorCal. TIA. |

If as good as it sounds, and this just a wild assed guess, I'd place a reserve of 25,000. Old trucks are loved!

The kid (distant relative, and a good friend) thinks it's worth $20k. I thought that was high, but then, I'm looking at the present economy here in NorCal. Truck is in my garage. We listed it on the local Craigslist during last summers' 'Hot August Nights' in Redding. Several phone calls, but they were all bottom feeders, no one came to actually see it.

Fing,
Also look here and ask...site is run by a good friend of mine, prior Marine and all around good dude. They live and breath GMC trucks. Let John know you know me: Paul Morgan. He has a farm about 15 miles from me. If you want, PM me with specifics and I'll go have a chat with him. The Stovebolt Page -- For Old GM - GMC - Chevy Trucks!

It is a small block V8. For some reason, '57 there was something going on with GMC truck engines, so the factory put Pontiac V8's in. This is unlike the usual SBChev/GMC. It has an aluminum valley cover, and dry runner intakes, definately Pontiac. I guess it is a desirable 'quirk'. It starts, runs, and drives beautifully. I'll pull it out in the sun tomorrow, and get some shots to post.
Thanks for the heads up, I'll start doing a research. As usual, the PBT comes thru. |

When I was looking at an old Chevy pickup, Stovebolt is where I went. Good bunch of people over there with no egos or attitudes.
