i just bought two bottles of beer that cost more than wine.
ouch. one bottle of TEMPTATION ale from the russian river. SAVEUR magazine wrote about it, and it just about sold out. i found a case. bought a bottle.
then i bought a bottle of st bernabus Ate 12, belguim abbey ale. both chillin and getting ready for some fine sipping. let me correct myself. this beer cost more than SOME wine. at least the ones i drink. hehe. five day weekend! furlough days. |
Try some Chimay, brewed by Trappist Monks.
It used to be expensive back in the day. (five or six bucks a bottle) Don't know what it costs now. I know that it was damn good though. |
Vash,
I usually pick up a nice bottle of Chimay (blue) on the weekends. At $12 a pop, I can't be picking up a sixer! |
Lol. Great minds think alike!
|
Chimay is very pricey. NO beer should cost that much. You can make it, but since I've never tasted it, I can't say for sure what the baselione should be. I have a XX in the carboy as I type, and a white Belgian is coming up next. 40 bucks for 5 gallons is better than 12 bucks a bottle! But then,,,,,,,I don;t object to 5 dollar wine. I'm an enigma!

I've grown pretty fond of Duvel. It's a Belgian Ale, ~9% ABV and SMOOTH. It's also $15 for a 4 pack............Ohh well, it's cheaper than good Scotch.
|
Guinness! Good to the last slow crawl down your throat drop. :P
and only $4.50 a pint. |
I found Chimay White for $4.60 a bottle a few weeks ago in a local grocery store. I bought every ****ing bottle they had, giggling like an idiot about the price to the droid at the cash register. Bad move on my part. The next day I went back for more. Unfortunately, it had NOT been restocked. Damn the luck! Went back the next day and the shelves were full for $11 per bottle. Bastards.

The most I have ever paid for a bottle of beer is $20, pint bottle and that was cost:eek:.
|
I've always been confused by Chimay's bottle coding techniques. Red bottle, blue bottle, white bottle, I just don't have the time to figure these things out. It's kind of like the difference between the red can of brake parts cleaner and the green one. What's the difference? Nobody knows. . .

My wife bought me a bottle of Utopias for our anniversary a few years ago.
Look up what that stuff runs for a bottle... |
Glad to hear you guys like our beers!
Cheers! |
When I was working as a mountaineering guide in Switzerland, you could get chimay red in little (maybe pint?) bottles at the supermarket for about as much as an equivalent sized soda. Great stuff.
I don't know about availability on the west coast, but here in the east there are a line of beers available from the Hennepin brewery in Cooperstown, NY which are similar to some of the classic Belgians... I would recommend checking out their "Ommegang" abbey style if you can find it, should run around $6 for a 750mL bottle. |
I just love the Chimay red, my favorite of the 3.
And will second the Hennepin/Ommegang recommendation, any of the Hennepin brews are very good in my book. Jay |
Chimay red tastes to much like soy sauce for me. I much prefer the blue.

Drayman's Porter. Mmmm mmmm GOOD!
Or this stuff - $150 a bottle. I'll be picking some up soon to try out. Any beer that's banned in 13 states has to be worth having! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1265911358.jpg I have a few bottles of Sam Adams Triple Bock (which I'm pretty sure they don't make anymore) at home. 1994-ish vintage. No idea what they're worth but I had one this past fall after I landed my current job. DAMN! GOOD! |
La Fin du Monde over here...
Recently I've grown fond of this cheap wine though: Yellow Tail Shiraz |
