When the boy's father confronted Matsko, the suit claims Matsko acknowledged the school could turn on the Web cam and take pictures whenever it wanted to.

The family says the district is violating federal wiretapping laws and as many as 1,800 students could be affected, because every high school student has a district-issued laptop with a Web cam, MyFoxPhilly.com reported.

The computers were reportedly paid for with federal and state money.

THAT'S whats wrong with California schools, we don't pay for a computer for every single student. I think I see a way to spend more money here.

Wouldn't it be perfect if someone posted with some pictures on the internet of that assistant principal guy dancing around in frilly undies in the privacy of his own home?

If you can't do, teach.

Parents buy kid a laptop. Some other parents 'think' the laptop is the reason 1st kid is doing better in school. School buys everyone a laptop. Other kid does no better, but now has a laptop.

you've been a good student, have a laptop. keep it in your bedroom.

The kid should write a manifesto and fly a plane into the school during school hours. That's be the best way to strike back at the school district for these oppressive and Orwellian policies. It should do a great job of rallying support for his cause, too.

I can see the school district being sued BIG TIME on this if they haven't been already.

I saw this today and this is a suit I will follow closely. I sent the link to all my "security" friends and got an interesting response back, one is currently playing with activating and deactivating ATM security cameras. He's says it's very easy and you can embed it in a web site to call the camera to turn on...just for fun.

He also said because his camera is embedded into his PC (with no indicator light) he has tape over it....

Hmmm, it's Eagle Eye....
