Thanks all for the excellent info, I need to save my pennies for faster lenses. And thanks for the bulletin link, mine is not affected.

D5000 Service Advisory

hey thanks when i go downstairs i will grab cam body and enter in cereal(serial)number and check. that recall is dated august so i am hoping mine isnt affected. i got mine as a xmas present on/around 12/23/10.

if i could get an underwater housing for this D-5000 i would be one happy mo-fo. but the only way i would spring for one, is after talking with another diver thats has logged a good 50-100 dives with one with no problems whatsoever. the versatility of this underwater would be amazing.

anyone got any feedback on underwater housings for nikon d-5000's they wanna share?

My $200.00 Sony gets the job done quite nicely:

Mark....looking at the same setup as you from BH photo. They have a combo with the 55 - 200 VR lens, but also have a combo that has the 70 - 300 VR lens instead, but that combo is about $300 more ($780 vs $1088). Are you happy with your tele lens? Is it worth the extra $$$ to get the 300?

Enjoy your new rig. Thanks,

Mike

Mike, I'm new to this and can't give you a good answer. I've been playing around with both but I'm such a noob that they both seem fine to me. The others here can answer better I'm afraid.
