Wine tasting near Portland OR

The post about Cali wine tasting got me thinking.

I'm making monthly visits to Portland OR... what is close by, like for a weekend trip?

I'm mostly a fan of reds but I'm open minded.

Thanks in advance!

I can't recall the exact wineries visited, but the couple times we did this type of stuff while living in Portland, we just followed Hwy 99 going southwest out of town. We just stopped along the way at various places we could see from the road. Within 30 minutes after leaving town you'll be coming upon them.

A couple places I've been to out there. Good beer country too.

Yes very familiar with Portland's fine beer and coffee... just thought I would round it all out by getting acquainted with the wine too.

Been to two McMenamins... one a block form the house and the other out in the country near the sake brewery.

That'll work.

I think you have it nailed going down Hwy 99. A little web work will get you where you need to go. Oregon wineries have a huge range of sophistication / quality / price points. There are some true gems but also some turds. The best I have had is Ken Wright's pinot. Not saying there isn't something better because there probably are several.

As to beer, McMenamins is at the bottom of my list. It is premium priced for a mediocre product. Others of course disagree.

Glad you are enjoying Oregon. You will also find some killer roads in wine country.
