The end of California...Tracy...

Tracy Residents Now Have To Pay For 911 Calls - cbs13.com

The only thing sadder than this...there will be a more F'ed up tax to come along. There is No F'ing shame in this state

Nothing wrong with user pay.

But we've been driving around So Cal for a while now and keep getting stopped in these Border Patrol road blocks on the interstates. Can't tell you how much time we have wasted in these checkpoints this past week. Driving through Afghanistan is more fun. Now these things would really piss me off if I lived here.

Bet you guys a dollar before year's end, some old lady on oxygen will keel over dead, not calling 911 cause she couldn't afford it. Offspring will smell money and sue the state. So the state doesn't collect the $300 AND has to defend itself in a lawsuit.

I don't understand why you even come here, there is nothing you like about the place. You can leave anytime you like.

I've only ever seen the checkpoints on I-8 between Yuma and San Diego.

Totally agree and it needs to be added to the mix that the residents are already being taxed and thus paying for 911 service right now.

Just because the city cannot manage its budget now it wants to tax residents several times over for the same damm thing. They deserve to get sued and lose.

Border patrol road blocks? Or are you talking about those "agricultural" check points?

We've run into them 6 times in a week—including on the I-5 between LA and San Diego. Delays each time. Amazing to me that motorists put up with this on their commutes.

Oh, wait, I get it ... "Nothing wrong with user pay." ...as long as the user has already paid at least once already. Kind of like parks; paid for with tax dollars, and then more with use fees. --that must be what you're getting at; right? ...If it's a govt service, it should be paid for many times over. (?)

Bingo, can't tax twice, and calling it a user fee isn't gonna fly either.
They tried some crap like that here in Va a while ago with traffic tickets, that didn't last long and the state had to refund all those who had the additional fines imposed on them. Looks like California is going to lose a lot of money over this when they lose the law suit.

Must be the luck of the draw. I've lived in SoCal for 2/3 of my life, been delayed 3 times that I can remember and none were very long. These were on weekends as I recall. By far, most of the times I've been through them they've been closed (sail right through).

Never thought about it until now, but I used to work with a number of people who commuted to Carlsbad from Orange County (through the check point on I 5 in Camp Pendleton) and never heard them complain. And, come to think of it, my ex-GF sells homes for a developer and for the last 5 years has had to drive from San Marcos to Temecula and I don't know that she's ever been delayed on the I 15 check point.

I don't know how they decide when to man them - seems random to me. This came up on a recent trip to Palm SDprings with my GF, who goes back and forth between her places there and in Oceanside 6 or 10 times a year (she's only been delayed a few times over the past 8 years). She seems to think they operate on the basis of tips/intel. Me, I dunno - but I've always doubted their efficacy.

At any rate, if you can't even take the time to stop and buy me a drink when you're zooming up and down our coast, I suggest that you take WoeBegone's advice and stay the FK outta CA!

Isn't Tracy the city that declared bankruptcy a few years ago because all the senior commisioners/police/ff's were pulling in at least half a mil salary?
(This is while troops stuggle).

Scary to think I was considering re-locating there.

Well excuuuuuuuusee me, boys and girls, but this durn foreigner hadn't realized that wasting time in random roadblocks manned by heavily armed thugs had become an integral part of commuter life in the late great state of California.

You live, you learn.

Sorry, I am gettin PARF here. No blame infered, just an observation:
Hot Air » Blog Archive » The rich (bureaucrats) keep getting richer
" The number of federal workers earning six-figure salaries has exploded during the recession, according to a USA TODAY analysis of federal salary data.
Federal employees making salaries of $100,000 or more jumped from 14% to 19% of civil servants during the recession’s first 18 months — and that’s before overtime pay and bonuses are counted.
Federal workers are enjoying an extraordinary boom time — in pay and hiring — during a recession that has cost 7.3 million jobs in the private sector."

Abuses of Public Employee Compensation scam revealed in new book! - Topix
"Some things are changing.
Look at Tracy, CA the Police union just agreed to going back to the old way. 2@55 for all new hires. And they agreed to not take there 5% pay increase for 2 years. San Diego did the same. Livermore cops passed on the 3% pay raise for 2 years. "

No those are different than the Border Patrol check points. They carry smaller guns at the agricultural check points

This is true, and it makes baby Jesus cry

I helped a kid put steel fuel lines in his 914 in Tracy one time.
