Boat / Hydrofoil Question

Folks, I would like to know what people think of installing a Stingray Hydrofoil on to my 18.5 foot Carolina Skiff DLX. I have a 75Hp Mercury on the back and would like to use it to improve my hole shot plus of course planing easier and improve fuel economy.

Has anyone either installed one on their boat (of any kind) who can give me a recommendation as to how it works good or bad? Or if you know FIRSTHAND someone who has done this that would be fine but with all due respect none of this "I read X or heard X" type of stuff. Please just those that have had actual experience installing and using one.

I use the boat in both fresh and salt water, mostly for fishing but also will be pulling at least a tube....and I don't have the cash to install Trim Tabs...that would be pretty cool though.

Thanks for the help peeps!

They are pretty common on the bass boats (including mine) around here. Keep in mind they put some added stress on your transom, so make sure your transom isn't rotted or has stress cracks in it. They are easy to install and remove (less than 10 minutes), and fairly cheap, so buy one and try it out. You can also improve your hole shot by using a different prop, but of course that is much more expensive and you trade off top end speed.

you will get out of the water faster onto plane. the aluminum ones have less flex,butttttttttttttttttt..................in my case....................

a 26ft pig cruiser boat weighing about as much as the bismark, with a 460 king cobra, i flexed it to the point of cracking. after a coupla spot welds and it continued to crack,we added some reinforcement underneath and problem solved.

understand the weight of my ship included 80 gallons fuel,35 gallons water,10,000 gallons of beer, 100 pds of ice,air cond,generator,6-8 people,40 pounds of bait, and 20,000 pds of pork rinds and all of the orange food groups.

p.s. this was utilized with a pair of BENNET TRIM TABS and a stainless prop.
