should have left the rabbit in an outside hutch. yeah...we have bears in NNJ...and the ease with which food can be found keeps them active for a lot of the winter

A lot of jokes here for what was i am sure an extremely traumatic event for the family so affected.
I couldn't even imagine how you'd explain that one to the kids.... |
That was my feeling upon first hearing about this. Heck, the rabbit was some kids pet.
I wonder what the law is on shooting a bear in your home, or property. I'm sure there is some kind of "hands off" law on the books. |
I don't care what the law is on shooting a bear in my home or on my porch. I ever see either, it's getting blasted. I'll figure out the applicable laws after it stops twitching.
|
Agreed.
.45-70 Marlin, that will do the trick. |
I don't live in bear country, so not surprisingly i don't really have anything well suited to bears.
After my throwing spear (LOL) the best anti-bear rounds i have are Doubletap 147gr 9mm+P Montana Gold TMJ flat points at 1150fps. They'll punch through 36+" of ballistics gelatin, so they should be adequate to the task as long as i hit something important. http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...railloads0.jpg |
have been thinking about what to get for when the bear zombies come. leaning twoards a freedom arms model 83. basically a colt peacemaker scaled up to handle .454 casull
though when you are a rabbit, i really think your carry options are sort of limited. |
Snipe, if you live in Philly you may very well live in Bear country! Don't be surprised if one of those black basards make their way into you home some night - a Bear that is...
|
If the bear is in your home, on your porch or attempting to get in you blast away. Thats what local LE told me. If the bear is outside and you shoot you will be prosecuted. Thats what happened last year to a man that shot a bear in his yard AND he lost his weapons as well.

NJ is as anti-gun a state as they come Flatbutt.

we get here some 300-400# black bears here in da SW. the minimum fer me would be .357 or a .30.30.
now think about this for a second. would you want to be UNDERPOWERED FOR THAT! gosh i could of had a V-8! .44 mag in a lever action or a 6" pistole would make me happy also. and marlin makes a DAMN FINE STAINLESS model .44 mag lever action that is on my list to buy. will make my smith from hell .44mag pistole a very fine nice and cozy mate. |

The last black bear I took was about nine or ten years ago. It took two very well placed shots, one through each shoulder (he turned around after the first shot) from a .30-'06 loaded with 200 grain Nosler Partitions at about 2,600 fps. It still took him a good ten minutes to die.
Want that in your house? Not me. There is a big difference between killing and stopping. Those of you who think you are going to stop a black bear with a handgun haven't killed many of them. If there were one in my house, I'd be reaching for the .458... This one went 21" B&C score: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1266953076.jpg |
Shoot anything in the head with a 36" penetrating handgun round, and it will stop them as fast as anything else.
