Just saw Shutter Island

Quite an interesting psychological thriller in film noire genre. Set in 1954 with DeCaprio playing a hardnosed but disturbed federal marshall. Worth a see although it is a bit long.

blood fest or did it just freak you out between the ears?

It was a decent read.

Just finished the book, plan on seeing the film this week. It kinda sucks knowing the twist, but........

Saw it last night. I hadn't read the book so I was like WTF for about 3/4 of the way through. Too many disconnects. Then it was, "Oh, now I see". Very well done in my opinion. Also, watch for the Hitchcock connections. Not obvious, beat you over the head things, but subtle touches that pay tribute to the suspense master.

I still can't stand DiCaprio. Don't think I'll ever be able to take him seriously.

I've shared the same sentiment...but after Revolutionary Road and now Shutter Island, I must say he's developing into a decent actor.

But WTF do I know?

BlueSkyJaunte 02-24-2010 08:23 AM

Well, one of the differences between you and I is that if I don't like an actor, I won't even bother watching a movie he's in. :D I rarely feel the need to change my opinions where entertainment is concerned.

Awww...c'mon now. I detested Travolta. Saturday Night Fever, Urban Cowboy, The Boy in the Bubble? BLECHHHH. Until he remade himself with Pulp Fiction. Look at how he has grown as an actor.

DeCaprio is maturing as an actor for the better. His tormented fascial expression are no olonger those of the teen idol in Titanic.

I can't agree more. It is really hard for me to see any movie he is in anymore. Whats with him and Scorsese also?? I am so tired of his over the top trying to be a tough guy also. Give it up

Me too. It's like a little kid playing big-boy parts. Howard-Freaking-Hughes? Huh?

(But I watch a lot of new movies, and I'll see this one too)

I feel EXACTLY the same about Nick Cage. :D

Saw it and would have just as soon waited until it was on video. It was interesting for a while and then just got very long. Of course IMHO that is...:D

I'm there with ya. Last movie I saw with him in it was The Rock, and only because Ed Harris and Sean Connery were in it to offset the Cage-sucks-donkey-factor.

I also despise Tom Cruise but made allowances to watch Minority Report. THAT was only because I try to watch all Philip K. Dick stories regardless of who is in them or how much they may suck.
