Buying a car in Canada
I am considering looking at a car in Canada (it is not a P-car). I live in Nevada. What kind of issues are there with an American buying a car in Canada and bringing it home?

Well, I can't really help because I bought the other way & I could point you to lots of info for US to Canada. It boils down to dealing with 2 federal agencies (US & Canadian Customs) + your state.
Here is a link with some info from the shipper I used. They also referred me to a customs broker. Hansen's Ian

From what I understand it's a whole lot easier if it's of at least a certain age (less than for the rest of the world). Maybe 15 or 20 years old? If it's newer I've been told that it's a total nightmare.

I bought my '72 in Canada in 2003. We called the border and asked all the right questions. I forget the details but they said it would not be a problem and wouldn't cost anything, maybe due to the age of the car. Bought the car drove to the border and ended up having to pay about $500 in fees to get it across and there was nothing I could do. All in all not too much of a hassle but some unexpected problems for sure.

IF it's over 25 years old, no problem. If not, you get to make the EPA and DOT happy, unles the car was originally a US spec car that was taken to Canada. It's usually not worth the trouble and expense.

US Customs has a publication "Importing or Exporting a Car" but it's not available online.
U.S. Residents Importing and Exporting Vehicles U.S. Residents Importing and Exporting Vehicles - CBP.gov I can ask US Customs for a copy tomorrow and mail it to you. PM me your address
