Joining the working world!

As many of you know or have surmised I have been floating by working for dad just when I need money... Well... That has changed. I got a real JOB today.

I had applied at a Pharmacy and was hoping to get the job. I basically would have been a delivery boy. I was waiting to hear back from them when...

Mom went in our usual pharmacy and the pharmacist was asking about her as when he was working for another place I had done some observation with him. He told her I needed to come talk to him.

Went in today and his biggest concerns were what my class schedule was and when I could start. I will be helping him behind the pharmacy counter as much as possible and working to get certified as a Pharmacy technician. But there is also a gift store and radioshack under the same roof so I will have to run the register there if they are short handed. Looks to be a fun job and he is wanting to work with me all through college.

Bravo! May you do well. I have the feeling it's all uphill from here for you. :D

Congrats dude.

Congrats, welcome to the real world.:D

With your desire to attend pharmacy school having the recommendation of a practicing pharmacist will be a HUGE benefit. I don't know about OK, but I know the KU pharmacy school is more competitive than KU med school. As another example, my sister-in-law has been applying to PA schools for 2 years now with no response, despite being a nearly 4.0 student with a biology degree, medical office experience, and a significant amount of community service. She found a new job with an opthomologist, who was so impressed in her that he offered to pay her way through PA school. He made one phone call and now she's enrolled in Wichita State's PA program. The old saying of "it's not what you know, it's who you know" is incredibly true.

I'm assuming it isn't dificult to get a Pharmacy tech certificate in OK, my son got one in AR a few years ago. He works a few shifts at the local hospital when he's home (jr Chemistry major, thinking of Pharmacy college at this point).

Congratulations Sid, there are a lot of pay-offs, more than money that is, with a real job. Well done!

vash 02-27-2010 05:26 AM

well done!

remember, every job is a stepping stone. if you can do every job well, you'll kick arse in whatever career you chose. (i just paraphrased my dad...poorly)

Hard-Deck 02-27-2010 05:43 AM

Good for you man.

Dueller 02-27-2010 06:42 AM

Congrats, Sid. Bet ya $10 the other pharmacy will call you within 2 weeks to offer you a job. Just the way things seem to work. Be prepared to make a decision when it happens.

Again, congrats...BTW...can you get me a deal on some oxycontin? ;) j/k

Gooch1971 02-27-2010 06:47 AM

Congrats!

Can I assume you will have "class" the 2nd Sunday of each month?

porsche4life 02-27-2010 08:41 AM

Place is closed on Sunday so interference with autocross! :D

The tech certification isn't too big a deal to get here from what I've heard.

Getting into Pharmacy school is rough here... SWOSU, where I am at, is generally considered the best of the two pharm schools in the state. Some say it is the best in the Nation. Anually 300+ apply and they take 85. You gotta be a special mofo to get in. I'm hoping this is the final leg up I will need. I am very close with the guy that just retired as chair of the pharmacy school so I have him as a reference when I apply.

Congrats Sid :)
Working with drugs while in college has worked for most in the past;
Good luck pal.

Forgot to mention.... With some classes I took in HS and some CLEP tests I am studying for I will be able to start pharm school a semester ahead of the rest of the class of '09. :D

I need 200 boxes of Sudafed whenever you get a chance.

GH85Carrera 03-01-2010 05:17 AM

Congrats!

I just don't spend your paycheck on geek toys at the Radio Shack. :)

You will be a great help in there as well. Our local Radio Shack has two morons running the place. All they know is "do you need any batteries today." I stumped them both when I asked for a 104C thermal fuse. It was like I asked them for a Flux Capacitor.

Congratulations! It's such a tough time to find a job, much less one with real potential for upward mobility like this. My brother-in-law is a Pharmacy Tech. and had talked about becoming a Pharmacist. It's a good living. Best of luck with Pharm. School.

Congrats on the gig Sidney!
