Nice nose art!

That is awesome.

But sexy sue does not look like a period correct pin up. That's a bit of a shame.
She looks like she just left the beach 20 minutes ago.. Silicone and all...

Funny, but I thought the same thing. She needs to be a little more "voluptuous".

With the air-stair it looks like an On Mark conversion.

Carrerax 03-02-2010 03:58 AM

What is something like that worth?

FLYGEEZER 03-02-2010 05:39 AM

Very, very nice. Airstairs, low tension R 2800's probably CB16 or CB17 engines, tip tanks weather radar. Doesn't look like the full blown On Mark with reversing props & nose wheel steering but wow! I'd like to rub up against it for a while. Thanks for the post.

The Lockheed XP-49(varient of the P-38) twintail look rather similar

those were used extensively in cambodia and laos also. but i didnt tell you that and neither did NIXON!

daepp 03-02-2010 08:10 AM

All I can think of is Richard Dreyfus whistling and wondering how much fuel two 2800's consume?

K9Torro 03-02-2010 01:34 PM

I agree, a more period correct pin up would have made a world of difference IMHO, not that the one on there is a bad job or anything but I would have gone a different route.

I wonder if nose art like that would make the plane a no-go for public airshows? I bet a few complaints would be heard if Little Johnny was found staring up at that set of knockers.

+10000000000

That nose "art" totally diminishes the aircraft.

Normy 03-02-2010 03:15 PM

+10000000 on the nose art!

Back in the prudish '40's, they wouldn't have allowed that sort of art- NOT! The artists ALWAYS painted outrageous scenes on the sides of the bombers, and then waited for the fundamentalist christians that were higher-ranking to make them paint it over and then put something more chaste.

The same thing keeps on happening today. Sad-

N!

Leland Pate 03-02-2010 03:42 PM

Glad to see I'm not alone. Such a shame to see such a cool aircraft defaced by a mid-eighties Hustler pin up on the nose.

RWebb 03-02-2010 04:06 PM

yeh - needs a nice tasteful Vargas Girl

James Brown 03-02-2010 04:30 PM

Didn't get a shot of the inside but it had 5 leather first class seats in the back. Not your classic military aircraft, must be a charter.

We flew them as spray or aerial tanker aircraft. The ones I flew were out of Rantoul Kansas with Dempsey. Several of them had been in Laos and one had been in the "Bay of Pigs" as well.

Nice old airplanes.

herr_oberst 03-02-2010 05:55 PM

Nice airplane; but, like others, I think the art is over the top, kind of tasteless; But for fun, I googled Aircraft Nose Art, and discovered that historically, nose art runs the gamut, from slutty to seductive, and the artist's ability is all over the map, too. (no real surprise there)

I guess my point being, it's up to the Captain to decide.
The secondary point, lots of what old timers put up on their birds would raise some eyebrows at shows today...
(and when I was a kid I remember staring a little too long at some of those pictures in my dad's old aircraft magazines, heh heh.)

(this looks pretty modern, but I thought , what the heck)
