Lots of green John Deere...;.who makes the red ones, I-H?

M.D. Holloway 03-02-2010 07:02 PM

Yup - Case IH

M.D. Holloway 03-02-2010 07:03 PM

100 Combines X $300,000/Combine = a buncha money...

pwd72s 03-02-2010 07:05 PM

For sure...not too many Farmers are impressed with $100,000 cars. They prefer much more expensive machinery.

GWN7 03-02-2010 07:10 PM

Saw the first picture last fall, but then it was titled "Saskatchewan fans on the way to the Grey Cup"

And yes you pay a lot for that green paint. :)

porsche4life 03-02-2010 07:47 PM

Yup, Case IH red, John Deere Green, Caterpillar Yellow, and a few Silver Gleaners....

p911dad 03-03-2010 06:39 AM

If you squint a little, photo #1 cropped to remove the highway at the bottom looks like day one of the first Iraq war tank battles.. (you know, really squint);)

targa911S 03-03-2010 06:49 AM

Nothing runs like a Deere. I sent this to my farmer B.I.L. he hates green. I'm the rebel here as I drive a Dodge truck, not a Ford truck, and I have a green tractor. I rub his nose in it every chance I get. All in fun of course.

Embraer 03-03-2010 06:52 AM

Growing up on a farm, the people who hated JD's were the ones who couldn't afford them.

john70t 03-03-2010 07:47 AM

And....... the genetically-engineered grain contained little or no nutritional value.

-Like Nestle formula in a baby bottle, the consumer ate and ate and ate but couldn't get anything out valuable of the meal other than calories, which only made him fat.

-Meanwhile, the lack of needed nutrients eventually caused organ and other bodily problems-which required the consumer(now labeled patient) to exit the labor-pool and seek unavailable treatment.

Eat those dollars up kids, they are the best food available.

I don't know if you're serious or being sarcastic.

We had Deeres on our farm. All B series tractors (B, 50, 520). I liked them. The 50 was "my" tractor. Then I worked for a farmer with a Farmall M and I thought that was the tits until he bought a JD 3020. I spent many many hours on that thing. It really sold me on John Deere.

vash 03-03-2010 08:19 AM

i wonder how much skoal was spit on that day?

First tractor experience was a Farmall H....but loved the JD's later on

targa911S 03-03-2010 08:56 AM

I'd like an old B myself, but it's way too much tractor for what I need. An M would be nice but for now my 330D is just fine.

I would too if the government paid for them for me.

Nobody I know got their combine free from the gubbment. They pay by the acre to have it done. Small farmers just can't pay that much for big equipment.

Bill Douglas 03-03-2010 10:57 AM

When I was 16 I spent a summer driving one of those things. I quite liked it but the days were long. We worked every day unless it rained, and just my luck :( it was the summer that never rained.

Same in this coutry. The agricultural contractors owned them and kept the machines moving to pay for them. No point in having a beast like that lying idle waiting for grain to ripen.

targa911S 03-03-2010 11:00 AM

I have helped my B.I.L do hay in the summer. Man it's a job. He's 72 years old and could kick my azz because he is so used to slinging hay bales. I want to be just like him when I grow up. Salt of the earth guy.

Around my county in Indiana, I can show you many farmers who gained windfalls of money from Uncle Sam, for doing ABSOLUTLY nothing, except being a farmer. It's one of the biggest welfare programs in the US in $$ spent. The bigger the farm, the more money you get. Also, if your wife is in farming, she can also get money. It keeps the farming economy going all over the country. Go to the USDA website and click in the county you want to see. It lists the farm owners name and amount he/she got in the last bailout, I mean welfare, I mean taxpayer gift, oh well you get the point. The last year I saw stats for was 2008, so I cant vouch for it being correct now or even avaiable.

America has to be the most socialist coutry ever. Plus the bailouts of failing companies. It makes even the dirty French look good.

There are certainly subsidies set up for farmers, but i was curious as to how many farmers are getting free combines from the government. The subsidies are plentiful, but I would disagree that they are doing ABSOLUTELY nothing, since agriculture is the United States' single largest industry. It must serve some critical role with keeping this industry going

strupgolf 03-03-2010 01:33 PM

I made no mention that any farmer got a combine free from the gov't. BUT, they got enough money to buy one. What the heck difference is there. And I meant what I said; they did ABSOLUTLY NOTHING, nada, nill, zilch, nothing other than being a farmer with land. I live around and with these people and know of what I speak.

Seahawk 03-03-2010 01:53 PM

Machine hire here...I've used the same guy for 15 years. He shows up with his JD and semi-tractor trailer grain hauler and, depending on the quality of the harvest, is done in five hours.

The price is reasonable (like I have a choich).

Just like you, we have sat around all day "waitin' on the man". Last fall we went in the dark. Those machines never sleep in the fall around here. They don't make any money sitting still.

I'm glad your 2nd hand experience trumps my 18 years spent living/working on an Indiana farm.

What about green Thunderbirds?

My first thought when I saw the pictures was "Bring on the Zombies."

Question: Do you own the farm you work on?

If I'm not mistaken it's now Case - New Holland with IH being absorbed. NH has a red as does IH. REALLY funny, (because the colors were so friggin' close), they couldn't decide on which one to go with. Was a serious pain in the arse for us having to make them both.
Great picture for sure.

I think the point trying to be made is that our modern diet is based way too much on soy, corn, sugar beets & etc. If we are not consuming it in corn sweetner and processed foods - we are feeding it to the cows, chicken, pigs and farmed fish we in turn eat. And all of it grown from patented GMO seeds and fertilizer made from natural gas.. In the end, we are what we eat. I think that is the point..
