Although my son has been to work with me many times for a visit, I have yet to put him on the radio, nor am I ever likely to....

That said, I thought the kid sounded good, and the old man would have been plugged in with an overide transmit ability.... Same way we do on the job instruction in ATC....

Cheers

It's called fear mongering by the american media outlets.

The media isn't supposed to dictate law and policy in this country directly. But it is now like never before.

This should be a non-issue. But news agencies have to blow something out of proportion so that they have a crazed story to spread like wildfire.

you can't monger without a willing audience.

You can blame the media all you want, but in the end it is the public's fault for watching and swallowing this tripe.

I'm with Gator... we've lost the edge.. wound up way too tight...

the "environment" > tower and multiple aircrews were having a good time with it..

I did not hear one departing aircraft voice a negative comment..

but of course > now some rat-ba$tard in congress wants to hold hearings..

like I said > we've lost it...... on the slope to doom.....

As a 29 year (this month!) ATCS, I think this is ridiculous. Smart? No, probably not. But there was no threat to safety that I can see. The issue seems to me that when the story came up originally, lies were made (Oh, no. That never happened. Bang!, ATC.net. End of story). The FAA has completely lost their sense of perspective and humor. Yes, humor. ATC used to be a bond between pilots and controllers. Now, things are so politically charged that nothing, NOTHING, gets any sort of reasonable judgement. It's all about poilitics. How sad. Whippedpuppy has it right. Normy is an idiot.

Indeed. Harmless, probably. Stupid, certainly.
I disagree that there's no reasonable judgement out there. Not everybody sits on the edge of their seat waiting to file a report. At least where I work.
