Chp/ citation
ANYONE HAVE ANY THOUGHTS ON ANNOTATING A CITATION FROM AN OFFICER? SEEMS THAT ONE SHOULD BE ABLE TO ADD ONES' THOUGHTS TO A TICKET (WITHOUT RECOURSE). AND, IF ONE HAS THE RIGHT TO DO SO: WHAT WOULD BE THE MOST EFFECTIVE THINGS TO ADD? e.g. "I WAS ONLY GOING 55 OR ???"

You could, you would be wasting your time, but you could.

no point in adding anything to the ticket. If you want to do that, take the ticket to court and get your say in front of the judge.
Oh, and STOP SHOUTING, WE CAN HEAR YOU JUST FINE WITHOUT THE ALL CAPS. ![]()

If only there were some sort of venue where one could give their side of the story when they are accused of a crime. Maybe there would even be a non-partisan person there to weigh the evidence and establish a fair and impartial judgement.....................

The CHP are experts in what they do, but most importantly, they always show up in court if you fight one of their tickets! It's insane, yes, even in winter, when they should be out protecting the highways they are able to show up in court! I've never won or had a ticket done away with, they always have stood up in court. However, I do believe they are targeting some silly issues now just because in California, they are told to "get the money" in to save the state and keep them in their jobs. Funny part is, even when getting tickets from the CHP, I still like the guys and gals, they are just doing their job, I've never been nailed for something I wasn't doing and I find them nice honest young men and women! Strange huh?

Went to court, cop said his thing, not CHP, Placer Co Sheriff(Omar, in OJU lingo) My wife gets her turn, asks the judge if they felt the officer's statement and the ticket were accurate. "Yes" She then points out she was driving a sedan, not a coupe, and her license was issued by Texas, not California and tells the tale as it actually happened. "Guilty" She protests, to no avail, few hundred bucks later leaves. Sort of cute that you guys are grownups, and yet are still naive enough to think it would matter what you said when it is your word against a cop's, and the court has a cash incentive to take the cop's word for it. You can fight the ticket, but are unlikely to win. It is all about generating income. That protect and serve stuff just looks good on the door of the cruiser.

I was given a break by a CHIP who gave me a ticket for speeding and reduced the speed from 1xxmph (significantly over 100) to 90 mph, after he pulled me out of my car by my necktie and lectured me for 10-12 minutes on the side of the 101 between Ojai and Santa Barbara I was 19. It turned out he was right behind me for about half a mile with his siren going but I couldn’t hear it because I was in a convertible! I remember hearing a faint buzzing sound which I thought was my fuel pump but then I looked away from the road and my gauges to glance at my rear view to see a CHP CAR and the expression the officers face which looked like he was pissed. I have never gotten a speed ticket again after that..
I still fear posting the actual speed. Late last century..

I was sited last year as an act of retribution by a CHP officer who was actually in the weight control division & not the patrol division. He was going 5 mph under the speed limit (which was 55), and when we got to a passing zone (the only one for another 7 miles and only .2 mile long), I decided to pass him. He was driving a weight control van. As I tried passing, I noticed I wasn't making much progress & looked down at my speedometer. We were both going 65 mph, so he was accelerating. I had to make the decision to pass or not. There were two cars behind him, and I still had room in the passing zone, and he didn't seem to be still accelerating so I passed him & slowed back down to between 55 & 60. Five miles later when we got to a straight away, he jammed it, lit up his lights and cited me for almost 70. He ignored me when I asked why he accelerated when I tried to pass. In court, he said I had passed him at a high rate of speed and continued going. Then at the end, he had to confess his van's speedo wasn't calibrated, so the Commissioner dismissed it for insufficient evidence. He was just wanting to cause me inconvenience and hoped I would just pay the $250+ ticket.
I just sent a letter to the supervisor of the district about it as I was cleaning out my stuff held over from last year. It'll probably be round filed.

I agree with Tobra - despite Marv Evan's luck, the chances of getting it killed in Ct. are very low (somebody should run an analysis and see what the statistics are).
The Judge sees the cops all the time, and they are "professional witnesses." You have little chance. You still may want to take your wrongly-issued ticket to Ct. on the off chance that you are found not guilty OR b/c it is worth it to you to fight and cost them $$. If everybody did that, the system would break down. That said, cops are unlikely to be doing it (with a few exceptions) for money or spite. They are ones who see gore and body parts spread all over the Hwy. It is not an appetizing sight, and it their job and duty to try and reduce that. In nearly every state, the Hwy patrol usually has the best, most highly trained and professional officers. And, the Calif. Hwy patrol is highly regarded among the 50 states. |

Any tickets I've received were due to my actions and were deserved. I've made some bad decisions in life.
![]() There were extenuating circumstances in 2 but I was the one controlling the accelerator. The MSP have been the most professional officers of which I have been ticketed. Yes, I have fought a couple and won because the officer did not appear.

Its usually not worth the time to fight. CHP leaves me alone, unless I go into stupid mode.
