1:45

For the past two nights, I have gotten two phone calls at 1:45 in the morning. I'm asleep. The second call usually wakes me up. It seems to me that the caller calls, hangs up, and calls again.

I was left a message the first night. It went something like this:

"Hello! This is [unintelligible] representing [unintelligible] calling regarding a job."

The call is from the 602 area code. I've been able to determine that it is a land line in Phoenix, AZ, and that the number is unlisted.

I'm going to put the phone next to the bed tonight so that I can answer it. I thought it would be fun if I could scare the caller with some personal information. Any ideas?

Speedy:)

See if you can enable "blocked call blocking" with your carrier. That way, if someone with a restricted # calls, they will get a message that you don't accept blocked calls, and to hang up and dial *82 before calling again.

Should that be OJU, or rather clown attorney?

The call will be traced to your basement....

Tell him you have a job for him and proceed to interview him as if he's applying for a male escort position.

I've never gotten a call after I've gone to bed....because I turn my phones off when I go to bed and haven't had a landline in about 8 yrs.

Mystery solved!

It was work.

The "job" in question was a batch job that I support, that was apparently issued to production early over the weekend. (And that was the problem, it shouldn't be there yet.)

Now, I have a major problem with the caller in this case, because he did not identify himself as having anything to do with work. He did not use my employer's name, my name, the name of the job in question, or even the term "batch job". Using any of these would have made me think this was work and not some random guy out of work. I will be talking to my boss about this this morning.

If one of my guys came in and complained about something like that on a Monday morning all it would do is get me irritated with him.

Now if it was a "funny" story and I did not feel like dealing with it was getting dumped in my lap I'd get a laugh out of it.

I'd just call the offender personally and give him some friendly advice on proper etiquette.
