1984 BMW 745i Turbo Euro question

Hi everyone,

I picked up one of these as a winter project and need some really reliable people to turn to help work on this with me. I would love to send the motor out to get dialed in and bumped up, brake and suspension work as well!

Body, paint, and interior will be done by me and some local friends.

This entire board has always been helpful and supportive with so many projects, and personal experiences I know you all have more answers for me! I went to the BMW side of the board but not lots of info on this particular car.

Help?!
Thanks!

ND

I can't help at all, but in '84 I was a junior in HS so of course I was in full on car envy mode. I saw one or two 745's around Houston at that time and thought what a badass car!

Agreed on David's comments.

What specific info do you need? 745i is a non intercooled turbo 735 made for the South African market or possibly developed by BMW in South Africa, the few that are over here are straggler grey market cars.

If you need specs on the car, Google is your friend. Neat cars, I love them and they have aged gloriously, still look awesome 25+ years later.

Actually, the 745i was developed for the European markets powered by the M102 (and later M106) turbo six. Due to the inability for the M102/06 to work with the right hand drive configuration necessary for the SA market, the M88 from the euro M5/M6. These SA cars are as close to an 'M7' as BMW got.

Scottie's turbo BMW page is a good resource, although traffic on the site is (understandably) slow.

Hey Nikita, go to Bimmerforums.com - The Ultimate BMW Forum They should be able to answer all your questions. 745's are cool. Just dont go to crazy with the boost.

You also might want to check out MyE28.com: BMW E28 5-series Resource - Index. Even though it's dedicated to the E28, discussions of the 745 are quite common.

I had a 1985 non turbo version 735i and loved it. Be weary of the auto trannys. The best 745i's have a manual trans.

I too would recommend MyE28.com. There are currently 555 posts about the 745.

SoCal might know for certain, but I believe they're 18" Style 5s from the E38.

A set of Alpina open-lugs look nice as well...

They are style 5s and they're the rarer staggered versions. 18x8 (ET 20) front & 18x9 (ET 22) rear.
