Both Wong Kar Wai and Zhang Yimou are on my director short list (for different reasons). But truth be told I think the most brilliant of the lot is Stephen Chow. Triple threat (writer/director/actor) that has one of the most creative minds around. Kung Fu Hustle is one of my favorite films of all time - up there with anything from Coppola, Kubrick, Wilder, etc.

i'll watch it when it hits cable. but polanski has at best a 1 in 10 average. that's means he's only slightly better than random chance.

i'm not sure kung fu hustle qualifies as one of the best movies of all time. but it is certainly the work of someone who enjoys life, and likes his audience. as opposed to some of the angst ridden hate filled german coprophiliacs already named.

Saw the movie last night.

Olivia Williams was terrific...she has the odd ability to look absolutely stunning or fleet average depending on the scene and the camera.

Refreshing movie.

Thanks. Was looking to see this movie and it's good to have some Pelican eyes out there first. Looking forward to it now. He's been uneven for me - highs like Chinatown, but many misses....

Off topic - just saw the Seventh Seal for the first time. Interesting and thoughtful, but hard to live up to what I've heard. Will take another viewing to make a lasting ranking....

Anyone see Me and Orsen Welles?

Well, I'll have to now...

I hate all the smart, cultured Knuckleheads that post here.

They cost me both dollars and sense, Rat Bastards.
