Question The next big thing

So what's the next big thing? Green technology; 3D; EBooks; clean water; earning less than two grand a year;hoarding Jack Daniels? Any ideas?

Much of Congress being fired by the voters come November...pretty safe prediction, I believe...

Either that or headlines screaming: NEW SOURCE OF ENERGY DISCOVERED
Not a safe prediction...

It's all a crapshoot.

But one thing they aren't making any more of is is good real-estate in top locations.

I'll always take that over all of the plays you mention.

Send a message via AIM to Gogar
Cell-phone with webcam.

3-D webcam.

That's my two guesses.

Major revolt against high fructose corn syrup, (oops, that's already starting) green electricity causing utility rates to triple, and $6.50 a gallon gas (coming soon).

I think it's green technology. All kind of new things are being developed. I'm working with a guy who is training bugs to eat garbage (not exactly training them, just facilitating them doing it in an orderly way). The bugs eat until a certain stage in their lives when they have an instinct to migrate. They migrate into a stream of water, get filtered out, dried, and turned into fish food or diesel fuel depending on the demand. The cost of diesel is about half that of the soybean based stuff and it doesn't gel in cold weather. The bugs are efficient at separating the energy in garbage from the other stuff and when they get done the garbage is safer and cleaner than unprocessed garbage.

webcam streaming on more mobile devices, ie skype. netbooks are going to merge with the whole iPad/Slate concept, and we'll see tablet computers with small keyboards, like something halfway between a blackberry and a netbook.

active displays everywhere. Think minority report.

"Augmented Reality" - the overlaying of data onto what we see using computers, mobile devices. and streaming video. Hold your cell phone up to the street, it videos everything, processes where you are, and highlights restaurant ratings, movie times, directions, etc overlaying onto your screen.

This kinda of stuff, everywhre:

What's the next big thing? It would be helpful to look at history to see what the big things were that changed how we live:

the invention of money
electricity
telecommunications
internal combustion engine
plastics
the Web, etc.

What's the next big thing? Economically getting off this planet. We'll have to wait awhile for it.

If people/governments got their collective heads out of their asses, we wouldn't have to.

Space colonization went nowhere after the 60's due to a ridiculous lack of focus by the world as a whole on the subject.

I think you've hit on something here. 10 years ago during the Internet Bubble, this was the promise that everyone was selling. it was funny to see the migration of talent and business plans from Web to Wireless virtually overnight. I wrote a quick plan that local businesses could send out specials, product reviews, etc. to your wireless device as you got close to their location, but never pushed it.

Historically you've been on the money so now that you have my undivided attention, what do you think is going to trigger the increase and how long do you think it will sustain that price????

I guess I better start looking for something to drive instead of a diesel pick-up because I really didn't enjoy paying $125 to fill-up my truck (at $5 gallon)

Agreed...headed to Montana this summer.

Concerning technology: Watch your kids, observe their habits and what they are either excited about or find lacking in their e-tools.
