OK..I feel a slippery slope. Cheap M3 on the horizon

Lawyer friend who knows absolutely NOTHING about cars (he drives a Saturn fer chrissakes) took title to a 94 M3 sunroof coupe as a partial retainer. Wants to know if I'd give him $2500 for it.

Daakar yellow, under 100K miles he thinks, needs tires and rear shocks, owner had interior redone with yellow inserts on black sport seats (huh???...sounding ricey), ground effects (HUH????...sounding ricier), 5 speed.

Just what I need...another clapped out Bimmer. Can't wait to see this jewel.

If it is a '94, it's a Euro market car. Certainly worth $2500. Very hard to make legal here.

Or it is a 318i with M badges.

Ya know...I was thinking that the M3 wasn't imported in 94. This oughta be really interesting.

It's probably a 1995 M3, since the lesser e36 models (318/325) weren't offered in yellow.
I will buy it for $2500 if you're not interested

hmmmmm....the plot thickens. Wasn't there something about OBDI cars being more desireable for track cars? I know the 3.2 is more desireable, right?

Track car wouldn't matter much OBD I/II.
The 95's were OBD I and didn't have the same VANOS so they work better for forced induction.
The 96-99s with 3.2 OBD II were stronger cars if left stock.

What kind of country bumpkin lawyers do you hang with? Most of the lawyers that I know are tooling around in German cars, and we're not talking about VW Bugs.

LOL

Positively love our 97 M3. The car does everything well, still has manners, and is BMW quiet, and smooth, but is still a German land rocket when you want it to be.
These cars are turning up everywhere on the cheap lately. Eventually all of these cars will be beaten into submission, and only the nice examples will be left. We have decided to keep this car( its been paid for for years now). We hardly ever use it, but like the 911's, it puts a big smile on my face everytime I flog it.
I am pretty sure that I could turn faster lap times in the M3 than I could in my SC, but what fun would that be??

I've only had my M3 on the track once. After really learning the track (Road America) in my RSA, my first thought was how ridiculously easy it was to drive the M3 fast. I've left my car stock for the most part. But the Schrick cams and a PSS9 set up are on the horizon.

The car will turn out to be a '95.

They are neat cars. Not huge powerhouses, with 240 hp, but they are fun to drive and fairly simple.

Dakar Yellow is a classic color for the E36 M3. That was what a lot of the press cars were in 95, so it's kind of the "signature color."

With the spoilers, wheels, and in Dakar, I think the 95 M3 is one of the most perfect looking cars of the past 15 years.

there was a 1994 325is M-technic package. rare car. the dakar yellow would make it pretty much impossible though. I think they were all alpine white.

M TECHNIC MODEL HISTORY

M Technic was a limited edition run of 150 1994 325is, built as a pre-production/test bed for the 1995 M3. In 1993, with development of the E36 M3 in full swing, the BMW Motorsport group released a heavily tweaked 325is. This car was called the M-Design Show Car, featured only as a prototype of the soon to come M3. But, since no one was sure if the new M3 would be released in the US, BMW was motivated to build the limited edition M Technic, molded directly after the prototype.

Each of the 150 units was outfitted with the luxury M3 front spoiler, M3 sport side skirts, M3 rear valence, M3 mirrors, and BMW Motorsport door handles. It was then sprayed with several coats of BMW's Alpine White paint. To help out in the handling area, the Motorsport gurus added M Technic suspension and 17", 2 piece, Motorsport wheels. On the inside, a black suede (Amaretta) and cloth upholstery laden with the Motorsport tri-color-fleck replaced the factory interior. A similar but toned down interior would later be used on the 1995 M3 Lightweight. Also added was the M-stitched steering wheel and M logo shift knob. Other standard features include on-board computer, heated seats, 200 watt 10 speaker premium sound system, and limited slip differential. Options included the M rear spoiler and stainless steel exhaust tips.

a good condition E36 dakar yellow M3 used to be my dream car years ago. $2.5k is a good price I think. It's a very fun "modern" sport car.

Nahh..... not until I see it and we get the list of what it needs. That being said, even if it needs $5k worth of work, its still a pretty good deal.

I like my car though. Plus, insuring a '318i' has turned out to be a good thing.

I'm very familiar with those cars, would love to have one. But it must have been the test bed for the U.S. M3. The M3 (the real one) was already being sold everywhere but the U.S. as early as I believe 1993. The car that we got in 95 was a stripped down B.S. version of the M3. 330is would have been a name more fitting. That said, I love my 332is. Just wish it had ITB's, 321 horsepower and aluminium doors to name a few things.
