A slim chance it might. Not "will". The simple expedient of swapping in a titanium (lighter weight) firing pin eliminates this as a concern. Springfield Armory 1911s utilize this method, and it's good enough for the CA DOJ to put SA 1911s on their "approved" list.

Depends how it lands and how hard. Putting a lighter firing pin or stronger firing pin spring in definitely helps.

There's also the simple expedient of maintaining control of your weapon.

Well, Springfields also have a hammer lock and key. I've never used it and it would be less than useless for carry or HD duty. But it's probably good for storing the gun if you have kids in the house.

A typical CS attack on a platoon of well trained US troops will leave about half of them weaponless (ask me how i know). I ran into a tree and knocked myself almost flat out cold when we got hit by a CS grenade the one time. CS sucks, i had a continuous snot stream from my nose clear down to my ankles, and my eyes, mouth, lungs and face were on fire. Another time we were in a Crash-hawk and hit some turbulence and one of the Pvt's M-16s went right out the open cabin door. IOW, spit happens. ![]() Murphy pretty much dictates that if your gun can go off when dropped on it's nose, at some point it will...Probably after it just landed on your foot.... ![]() PS: P7's have drop safeties. LOL..... ![]() By the way, i know this is a 1911 thread, but here's one .45 i'd looooooooooooove to have:

Hell no, dude. Last time I was attacked--in any way--was in 7th grade. After that I got to be too good at professional cowardice.
It's served me pretty well for the couple decades since, despite my wife's efforts to get me into the occasional fights with drunkards. ![]() If I'm ever involved in a social situation that involves tear gas, I'll either fling up my arms and surrender or run as far and as fast as I'm able (which will probably be not far). FWIW, the CA DOJ test documentation is pretty extensive w.r.t. drop safety. See section 12128: Handgun Safety Testing. Also note they have approved (i.e., passed the drop test) a number of "series-70 type" 1911s including two of my beloved Dan Wessons. Roster of Handguns Certified for SaleRick: My SA TRP got a standard mainspring housing within approximately 15 minutes of making it inside my home. Last thing I need on a gun is more parts to go wrong. Like, say, series-80 firing pin safety bits or Swartz-style safeties.

![]() Springfield Custom Shop Professional model This 1911 has been through the most rigorous test any 1911 has gone through and beat out the best from all the top custom guys. FBI HRT uses them and believe it or not, they are more accurate than a P7(never thought anything could be).

I thought you'd like that.
Have you tried OC spray? It made CS feel like a walk in the park!

I've gotten pepper spray in my eyes a few times when it sprayed back at me after i just juiced somebody. It stings, yeah.
![]() Every time i've used it that stuff has kicked butt. A CS grenade is like a solid cloud of thick white gas. MUCH nastier than the gas chamber they make all the troops go through. It's effects are greatly amplified by the thick white cloud. You run into all kinds of stuff because you can't see doo-doo. |

My suggestion is buy the Springfield Armory MilSpec and then shoot 1000 rounds to see what you would like to correct on it. After 1000 rounds you should have a good idea of how you want to customize it.

I took one on a trade, but traded it before I got a chance to shoot it, as it was an Officer's size and the checkered mainspring housing cut into my hand pretty good even when dry firing. They have external extractors and are super tight all around. Haven't heard any complaints.
