Anybody done Le Mans before?

Reserving my TGV ticket from Paris to Le Mans tonight. Anybody been to the race before? Any pointers? I bought a ticket for it back in 2006, but it rained the whole time so I stayed in Eastern Europe instead of heading west for the race.

they will most likely want you to buy a new ticket.

I planned on it, already purchased the ticket.....just was pointing out that I almost went a couple of years ago.

I have the DVD if that counts.

Yes, several times.

Do you have a place to stay very close by? If not you are not going to like the backed-up traffic for miles around thing.

A close enough place to stay that you can walk or bicycle to and from makes the experience fantastic.

Camping out or RVing it is only bearable if you are 19 years old or arrive and depart several days before and after the race.

Of course you could just arrive and stay up for the 24+ hours! I've done that but it makes for a long day.

Which is of course the whole point of a historic 24 hour race, is it not?

To paraphrase Warren Zevon, I'll sleep when I'm dead.

It's Le Mans. Grab a coffee and stay awake.

I agree, I would stay awake, part of the experience, not?

Go to bed, kid...students need their rest. Leave crazy late night posts to us grown-ups.

Thanks RPK...that's the first hand experience I was looking for. I wasn't sure exactly how crazy the traffic/crowds were going to be...but I can imagine now. Believe it or not, I did plan on camping. I'm still in my 20's, and I've had the image of waking up the day of the race and meandering out of my tent in my head for years.

Thanks!
