Anyone know anything about Saturns?

Got a 2002 Saturn SL1 here with a clutch who's "arm" has come out of the firewall, where it presses on the hydraulic piston.
Local GM dealership doesn't know if there's supposed to be a helper spring to keep the pedal pressed toward the firewall, or if there's a retainer clip somewhere on the arm that has come off, allowing the arm to come out of the hole.

Anyone know Saturns? Gotta get this fixed. Other vehicle fuel mileage is killing me.

Just go online and look for an exploded diagram. A saturn dealer would also be helpful.

Short of that, you can come disassemble my 2004 Saturn....

There's a connecting rod of sorts on the clutch pedal that goes through the firewall. I need to know how the rod attaches or is held in place once it gets through the firewall. Mine became un-attached and pulls out of the firewall easily.

have you examined where it comes out into the passenger compartment? Or doesn't it?

On engine side or interior side of firewall?

If I remember correctly, there are two slave cylinders on the car, one at the fire wall and one at the transmission, if the one at the firewall has leaked and caused the firewall to disintegrate, you need to fabricate a backing plate along with getting a new slave. I don't remember a spring being involved with the arm of the clutch pedal and I think the spring loaded clutch fork inside the transmission forces the fluid back up the line and to the firewall slave cylinder returning the pedal to resting position. Kind of a two way hydraulic system. It's been awhile so this may be of no help, and may be inaccurate.

Edit, yeah that's of little to no help. I can't remember how the firewall slave cylinder connecting rod attaches to the pedal arm.

This is in the passenger compartment, through the firewall, and out to the other side. Neither cylinder has leaked, that I can tell. Pulling on the pedal will cause the arms to come out of the hole, as pictured. Or catching your foot on the pedal.

What in holy handgrenade hell would they have 2 slave cylinders for?

kaisen 03-27-2010 12:16 PM

The rod from the pedal arm to the boot is non-serviceable. It is part of the clutch master/slave cylinder assembly. There does appear to be a circlip that retains it. It seems to clamp right over that little rubber boot and retain both. Worst case scenario is a new assembly which runs $20-30 used or about $100 new. They are very simple to install, no fluid or bleeding or adjusting required. They simply twist and push into place once you've unfastened that rod from the pedal arm end.

There's only one. A sealed combined master/slave at the firewall.
