Nostalgia?

The place where I get my haircut is called the "Famous American Barbershop" It's got life sized models of Elvis, etc on the counter and the walls are covered with "50's themed" pop culture stuff. (The shopping center was built in the last 4 years). I'm 36 and I get thinking....who's interested in this stuff these days? Certainly the people that remember it when they were young are getting fewer and fewer (and fewer than that in the suburban sprawl I live in).

But, made me think further, what nostalgic junk would there be for my generation? The 50's and 60's have been played for a long time for the baby boomer generation. Will there be such a surge of "feel good" nostalgia for this generation? I think a lot of this is based on common ties and common experiences. How would the Gen Xers celebrate the past pop cuture...or whatever.

What about the current generation, the Millennials? Everything is so fragmented these days. Does anyone have a common experience?

What do you think?

I hope and pray that the 80's don't turn into the "nostalgia of tomorrow. The 80's clothes and hair and such weren't even good in the 80s.

Ahhhhhhhh, I remember when I used to be nostalgic.

All kidding aside, I feel as though multiple time periods can make me feel nostalgic. I'm the youngest, and my brothers are considerably older than I am. Also, thinking of my parents takes me back. I grew up in the country, so being old-fashioned was really kind of the norm growing up. (....carrying a satchel, wearing saddle shoes, etc. ...and I'm only 28)

When I was younger, for about 4 years, I listened to nothing but 50's and 60's music. Seeing old 50's and 60's stuff makes me feel nostalgic.

Growing up, I played with a lot of hand-me-down early 80's toys from my brothers. Seeing those toys makes me feel nostalgic

My dad always had muscle cars and Porsches around....so seeing those makes me feel nostalgic.

etc..

I can take nostalgia for a little while, then it starts to get old. ;)
