Kindle, Nook, iPad, etc - which one to buy?

I want to carry less, I want to read books on it only - not newspapers or magazines. I may want to surf the web if it's easy enough to do it on the device. Surfing on my Blackberry sucks. But, lacking web connectivity isn't a deal breaker.

Which would you buy?

FWIW, surfing the web with Opera on my BB works perfectly fine.

unless you reroot your nook, it will not surf the web. Kindle can suft somewhat but from what I hear it doesn't do it well. If you want to read a book, Kindle and nook are the ones to get, it you want applications and web access, get the Iwhatever.

Still saying Kindle. Nook, probably the better product, but B&N won't accept payment from service members stationed overseas...read: they have little idea how US basing works. Go Amazon....they don't care where the money comes from!

I haven't bought any yet, but if I understand correctly, the public library will not work with Kindle and Nook, only the Sony

I was playing with a Nook a few days ago at a B&N store and found it rather disappointing. The little color display is kind of cool but it doesn't seem to be very useful. I think I'd rather have more usable E-ink space for the books. The color area is the only are that's touchscreen. The reading are is not. The page turning buttons on it didn't feel as nice as my Kindle's either

In the end I'd say get a Kindle. With the free wireless access you can get to most websites (I even placed a Pelican order from it once!) and with the upcoming SKD and third party apps I still think it's a winner!

Good luck,
Michael

As long as the book is PDB, PDF, or EPUB, you should be able to get the nook to read it. nook is not proprietary like the Kindle.

Actually the latest Kindle software reads PDFs natively. You could however always have converted them to the Kindle format for free but it's not necessary anymore.
