Charitable Contributions
How many folks give charitable contributions?
Do you give cash or your old stuff or what? Do you do it because you're generous or for tax purposes? I'm just curious. We donate clothes and "stuff" every year or two, but don't usually give cash. |
Yes.
Yes. Yes. |
Us.
Yes, both. Yes, both. I'm not curious. |

We donate clothes and things to Goodwill/Salvation Army several times a year. We let the kids pick out what to give. I don't usually get a receipt for tax purposes. I don't think the $$ amount would be enough to make a difference anyway.
I personally do not like to give cash but have done so under certain circumstances. We aren't rich but, having been laid off, I know there are people that are much worse off than us, especially here in our area. My time is one thing I don't give to charity. I would like to but I just don't get off my butt and volunteer. :( |
I give to my school, sometimes to regular charities and when I see a charity in urgent need like during a disaster. Usually clothes and stuff too. Unfortunately (or fortunately) my mortgage is paid down so much that I can't itemize anymore so there's no tax benefit.

We give through our church, Not quite tythe but close most years.

For us giving comes from appreciation for all that we've been given, and trusting that our security does not come from ourselves or our money.
We record it and claim it on our taxes. When we get the tax refund, we give a portion of that too. |
I do both... I give to help plus this is the first year I get to write it off and it is over $9000 in donations seeing how I was moving and all...
I never give real cash but I do give money to certain charities like Special Olympics, Down Syndrome Assoc of Los Angeles, The Down Syndrome Research Inst and Autism groups. These I do because they are badly needed. |

Money, time, our business donates our services as well.
The way I look at it, your community is only as good as the people in it, and the needs should be addressed by those in the community. |
mostly medical charity stuff....i have a good friend with a child who has cystic fibrosis..i give a decent chunk for that.
makes me sleep better at night. i also do Kiva, which is indirectly charity |
