My 30 GB Classic Ipod is having problems with the earphone jack, one channel goes in and out, and it's the same with several other headphones that I know are good. Apple wants $129 to repair it. I think the female internal jack just needs a little cleaning or bending of the contact. Any experience out there. I could put my music on my IPhone, but that runs the battery down faster than I'd like.

never done it but Ebay item 120549895747 seems to be what you are looking for.

I took one apart to reapair it but it was the old mini style with aluminum housing. I doubt the newer ones would be as easy.

Ok, thanks, I'll see if anyone else has a comment. For $5 or so, plus shipping, I don't mind trying.

I did put a new battery in one, (early model, not sure what to call it, how 'bout "30 gig without a scroll wheel") cost was 25 bucks or less, with a tool to lever it apart plus some well written instructions.

I have heard good things about these guys but I have never used them.

I took apart a 30gb video (original video model) to replace a cracked display. Bought a kit that included the display and plastic tools to pry the case apart. Was pretty simple and straight forward. Will see if I can find where I ordered from, but it was a while ago - so no promises.

For under $100 you could turn it into an 80 gig unit. I just took a 30g with a bad hard drive, and made it an 80g with a black face plate just to be a little different. It's almost full already.

Can you please provide more information? Where to buy parts and what not? It took me about 4 years, but I finally just filled up my 30 gigger. :(

You can actually go all the way up to a 240G hard drive!

You will need a thicker back, as the 30 gig hard drive is thinner than the 80. I used these parts. It says it's for the 60, but it works with all of the 8mm thick drives : Front Back Cover Panel Housing For IPod Video 60GB BLK - eBay (item 370223892561 end time Apr-28-10 14:37:57 PDT) Great people to deal with too. This comes with the pry tools to open the ipod. You will have to use the headphone jack, battery, and Hold switch from your old back plate (see the videos posted for Hugh). It only takes a very small phillips screw driver, and peeling up some two sided tape on the battery. If the battery is weak, now is the time to change it, or to upgrade to a higher capacity battery.

It really is just plug, and play. Just be sure to back up all of your music.

All of these parts are for an ipod Video 5G so they may not work with your model.

You can't add the slot - yet. But guys are adding solid state drives to them to replace the old hard drive. Not enough storage for me.

Wow, I have several thousand songs and only use about 14 gig out of the 30 gig.
