Of impromptu family reunions, my brother's sadistic side, birthdays and shot spoons

My father went thru a particularly frightening health crisis (dementia/psycosis secondary to medication/aging) about 15-18 months ago and tho he is still somewhat physically weak, he has made remarkable progress particulalrly with regard to neurological issues. He has been hesitant to travel much in the past 3-4 years, but my brother convinced him and mom to make the 7+ hour drive with him to visit me this past weekend.

We assured him we would keep it low key...not a lot of excitement. They were hesitant until Tuesday when I was finally able to confirm they were definitely coming. I called my 80 y.o. aunt (Dad's only surviving sibling) on Wednesday morning to see if her daughter would drive her the 2 hours to suprise my dad. Word had gotten out that he was coming and before you know it 25 or so nieces/nephews, grand/great nephews/nieces, elementary school classmates etc wanted top come up on Saturday to see my dad...some of these folks he hadn't seen in decades.

So we had a grand time suprising dad on Saturday. We grilled out, set up tables outside for a feast, had beautiful weather and an unbelieveable party/impromptu reunion for my dad.

After they all left, I asked dad how he felt when his family/schoolmates suprised him. He was truly excited/suprised but he said wiuth a laugh "For a moment there I thought I was attending a funeral...and fearful it was my own."

Well that turned out great, but it was also my birthday, which I tried to ignore. But as luck would have it, my brother decided to give me a much too extravagant gift...a problem I've had in the past with him.

Ya see, my brother collects guns and has amassed a nice but not particiularly rare collection...more about quantity than quality although he has some pretty nice weaponry. I had mentioned to him I've always wanted an over/under to play with. Assked him to keep his eyes open for a decent used gun...nothing fancy...just something I can play around with on doveshoots or at the sporting clay range right up the street from where I live.

So this is what he handed me in the middle of the party:

Browning Citori 12 ga. 28" barrels Invector-plus back bored.

Here's the sadistic side of my brother. He's had it for 20 or so years. And its never been fired. I know its not particularly rare or uber expensive (although pricier than any gun I shoot regularly), but I feel bad about popping its cherry. Even if its "just" a field grade jap gun.

Dayum...I bet he knows the dilemma he's put me in.

Welllllll......he DID win it at a Turkey Unlimited banquet for a $25 raffle ticket. And he justified giving it to me because he primarily has Winchester, Remington, Berreta and 4 or 5 Kreghoff shot spoons. Said he wanted to get this lone Browning out of his collection......hmmmmmmmm

What he should have done was loaded it a popped off two rounds and handed it back to me

And sid...I'd trust you with the twins before I'd trust you with a spoon

(Actually, I think the twins would clean your clock)

Jim... You realize that my 2 favorite scatter spoons are brownings of equal or great value right? Like... I use my mossberg for screwing around... but when the chips are down... I'm going with my A5....

Oh and those twins... I know they'd hurt me.... I'd enjoy it right...

Heck..I wouldn't trust you with my $120 Savage side by side. It ain't the price it's the possibility you'd hurt me j/k

As far as the twins....guess what? They've just about finished their first year away at college. Mom's over there helping them pack up for the summer. AND SUPRISE SUPRISE...they're simultaneously dumping their slug bf's

I'm beginning to see how calculating young women can be...both have new guys lined up

I have that exact same Browning, but not sure what "back bored" means. I like it very much. When looking to buy it about 20 y/o my neighbor who got me interested in skeet shooting (which I don't do enough) showed me an exploded diagram of the browning vs. a similar Barretta, he pointed out the Browning did the auto cocking of the next barrel with 1/4 the parts of the Barretta.

Well, they're moving from their respective bf's apartments back to the dorms for the last three weeks of school. They've acquired so much crap their dorm room won't hold it. So mom's going over to get their apt stuff and haul back here so when they do finish in late april they won't have much to move.

What's thias about sliding off the market? You gettin' serious

Apparently wth the invector plus system the bore is slightly larger going into screw in choke to improve patterns....what my brother told me. I dunno.
