what's the scoop on the new i-phone ?

I've still got my original i-phone and have been holding out for the next gen.

Anyone know when the rumors of the new one coming out are ?

I"ve heard it will have tethering, anyone know what other cool features are coming ? or speculated ?

I'd expect it mid summer as usual....

search around here and say what they say...

I HOPE we get tethering back... I loved it on my 3G for the few months I had it...

Aurel 03-29-2010 06:08 PM

I heard it will have tits hearing. WTF?

stomachmonkey 03-29-2010 06:40 PM

Verizon rumors are strong today.

HardDrive 03-29-2010 06:54 PM

I'm in a 3g. Might get one if it's got enough new bling. I hear mid summer.

A930Rocket 03-29-2010 06:57 PM

LMAO... someone using my trick... I've created a monster...

Bah! USB tethering. If you had an Android phone, you could do wifi tethering. Yeah, tethering without the tether. No, really, the phone is turned into a "hotspot" to which you connect via wifi. We've got usb tethering too.

Still, the iPhone is pretty kickin.

OK, I got it, you're using your IPhone as a modem where you can't get free wifi, or any wifi? I think I did that years ago with a Verizon cellphone. You can't do that with a new Iphone? I have a six month old IPhone 3GS.

To show I'm not a total electronic idiot, when I go to Europe, I get a local SIM card for my old BB which is unlocked and call home for 10 cents/minute, instead of $1.29/min using my IPhone. I haven't looked into the advantages of jailbreaking my IPhone yet, as I understand it voids the warranty.

Android doesn't work outside the USA, no good for me.

porsche4life 03-29-2010 07:13 PM

Yes... You can only tether the iPhone if you jailbreak... ATT are Nazi's about the data usage that comes with tethering..
and if you have a 3GS with 3.1.3 jailbreak is impossible....

FWIW, You can put the same SIM in your iPhone.

Hugh R 03-29-2010 07:27 PM

Cool good to know, I can do this without "jailbreaking" or not?

A930Rocket 03-29-2010 07:54 PM

Since I'm from my posting from iPhone, I was too lazy. :)

The iPhone 3G can tether either via USB or WiFi. I have it set up on my non-jail broken phone. I don't use it, because I have a MiFi anyway, but I wanted this fir emergencies. It also means I don't upgrade the iPhone OS, since I think they may have blocked this particular hack in updates.

The Verizon iPhone could be cool, since ATT has seriously failed to keep their network up to the load. In SF I can barely get a 3G signal. But could you plug a SIM card into a Verizon iPhone? I thought Verizon was still incompatible with most overseas networks.

I hope they offer it for Verizon. Our son can't stand AT&T's coverage, but we have great coverage with Verizon.

Now c'mon, don't be a "hater". ;) And yes, my WM6 Palm also turns into a WiFi Hotspot. It also can tether USB (and charge the phone) and tether via Bluetooth, which uses a lot less power than WiFi

GSM Android phones work outside the USA. T-Mobile had the first Android phone.

Yes, you have to signup for a "tethering" contract and pay a few bucks extra.
