Camaro vs. Mustang

1/4 mile drag race...6.2 liter Camaro Z-28 vs. 2011 5.0 liter Mustang...

YouTube - 2011 Mustang 5.0L vs Camaro 6.2L Drag Races

(edit) Of course, neither could compete with a 944.

TGTIW 04-02-2010 03:44 AM

A 928 could take both of them.

Starting in second gear. I mean, they can burn rubber at highway speeds in 4th!

kach22i 04-02-2010 05:15 AM

Camaro starts slow each time, the new owner must be scared to push it.

They need to switch drivers or something.

TGTIW 04-02-2010 05:28 AM

A 928 could clear the 1/4 mile, stop, fix whatever electrical problem popped up and drive off before either the Camaro or Mustang hits third gear.

creaturecat 04-02-2010 06:12 AM

So, ugliness is not the Camaro's only non-virtue.
Damn, that Mustang runs hard.

Tobra 04-02-2010 06:23 AM

Need to have someone who knows how to drive in the Camaro and try it again

A new Z28 would crush my lightened and modified 928 in a quarter mile, i'm sad to say. :(

Mine has run a best time of 13.67 @ 102.9

Read & weep:

Equipped with the available 3.73 rear axle ($395), our 5.0 needed just 4.3 seconds to hit 60 and only 12.8 at 110.8 mph to knockout the quarter mile. To answer the million-dollar question: Yes, it's quicker than both the 426-horsepower Chevy Camaro SS (4.5, 12.9 at 110.7) and the 425-horse Dodge Challenger SRT-8 (4.6, 13.1 at 108.4). It's also not that far behind the 540-horse supercharged 2010 Shelby GT500, which requires 4.1 and 12.4 at 116.0. In the league of naturally aspirated muscle cars, the new Mustang GT is in a league of its own.

Shame about that blue oval on the grill though....

pwd72s 04-02-2010 09:19 AM

Actually, that's why I'll probably be keeping my slower Bullitt...I don't like
emblems. Why so down on Ford? It's the one domestic car maker that said no to becoming a ward of the state.

Oh...I forgot. Porsche is better because it has a crest, not an emblem.

porsche4life 04-02-2010 09:28 AM

Paul... I'm just not a fan of ford... Not really a fan of anything modern and american... Nothing that jumps out and grabs me really.... I'd gladly own lots of other cars that don't sport the crest....

911boost 04-02-2010 09:32 AM

I read a write up on the new 5.0 engine in Car and Driver. It is actually a pretty cool piece of engineering.

Having driven a new Camaro, the rearward visability is absolutly horrible. I couldn't belive it.

Chocaholic 04-02-2010 03:59 PM

To the contrary....the blue oval is a primary reason my daily became a Ford about 3 months ago. It's great to see an American company building high quality nice looking and reliable automobiles. Mine happens to be a 2010 F-150 King Ranch, not a sports car, but it impresses me more every time I drive it.

Here's to the blue oval.

Wow, the comments under that video sure are intelligent. Never knew that those cars attracted such an intellectual crowd.

LOL, what I was thinking.

Of the current crop of "American muscle cars", the Dodge Challenger is really the only one that interests me in the slightest. Too bad it's also the slowest...

pwd72s 04-02-2010 10:56 PM

Yeah, gotta admit, at least Sidney was polite with his slamming of Ford. I think those comments stem from the South...NASCAR stuff where the old traditon of Ford/Chevy/Mopar rivalry can get heated.

Of course, I've NEVER read any name calling on Pelican.

porsche4life 04-03-2010 05:34 AM

My dislike of ford has nothing to do with nastycar. Our family has just always been into chevy or dodge.

Westy 04-03-2010 08:13 AM

Maybe I'm mistaken,,,but was that jet coming in for a landing right over their little dragstrip????
