Zimbabwe

This is an extract from a book. Does the plight of White Zimbawean farmers get any attention in the American media? I've never seen it in Europe and only infrequently in the UK, I was only familiar with it because I had some Rhodesian friends at University and we stayed in touch.

THe only thing I can be sure of about Zimbabwe is that when butterflies there fart, it somehow disturbs 911 valve adjustments in other parts of the world...

Scuba Steve 04-03-2010 04:19 PM

It gets little to no attention in American media. Not in ages.

I've read several articles about it. But it's a pretty obscure topic in the media here.

Like most of Africa, it's ignored unless they're irritating us - like the Somalian pirates.

Zimbabwe gets no attention in the States.

I have a personal friend who emigrated from there in the 70's (she calls it Rhodesia). Her grandfather-farmer called them all home a few years ago and gave them all of his remaining assets to spend on "stuff" that they could carry out of the place. A very sad time for them all.

Subsequently, she has shown me check copies with more zeros than I can add up.....

Soon, I suspect, the US will be sending them food aid :( but still they will starve.

North America has nothing to benefit from Zimbabwe - no media.

Mugabe is thug who has starved his people, gutted the economy and ruined a once proud country. All under the guise of land reform. I don't understand why he hasn't been 'removed'.

Not one word of press that i have ever seen.

HardDrive 04-18-2010 11:15 PM

It did get coverage when Mugabe first started destroying the country and killing off whiteys.

But no one had the nuts to take action, so it dropped of the medias radar.

Anyone who has read up on the history of Rhodesia and sees what it has become has to be disgusted. Will we see anything done? Of course not. Talk to some ex-pat Rhodesians if you want to learn about it.

The Gaijin 04-19-2010 06:14 AM

Well, a lot of this started going down when South Africa was heading toward "majority rule", so nobody wanted to think about it.

I have have an African friend who grew up there, but he is not from a farming family - his mother is from another African country and his Dad is Indian.

He said it is heartbreaking to go back. What was once a prosperous country and abundant farmland is now a mess.

Porsche-O-Phile 04-19-2010 07:06 AM

We should pay more attention to Zimbabwe because our currency is going to look awfully similar to theirs before too long...

m21sniper 04-19-2010 07:12 AM

Probably not just our currency...

Most Americans do not have an idea of even where it is. Was there a couple of years ago and hope that I never return, or at least as long as Mugabe is above ground.

Milu 04-19-2010 07:51 AM

I think they were ALL much better off under Ian Smith. Jeff Cooper wrote a short article about him that makes what was done to Rhodesia look even worse!

Rot 911 04-19-2010 08:06 AM

I agree that majority rule tragically ruined most of the countries in Africa. I am friends with a number of individuals that live/lived in those countries. Having worked with their military in the past I have come to know more about what is happening there then most Americans. I post on a very interesting military forum for present/former members of the South African Parabat (Airborne). They have an open section for those that are interested in reading more: Airborne Soldier There are a few open forums, but most are closed to non members. Vetting of members for the closed sections is very controlled. You have to basically be identified by someone that was in the command structure, proving you were in the South African Parabat, to become a member of the closed board. I am a vetted member.

Ask RPKESQ, he was there and can tell us all about it.
