I just read that they bumped it up to a 7.2.

That was a looooong shake. At least 30 seconds of mild side to side and a little bit of up and down wave action. It felt like being out on small boat on a calm morning ocean. I was outside, so no worries. It was actually kind of amusing for me to feel that.

I heard that the further away, the longer the duration, so I'm not surprised that we felt it longer down here in OC than you did in Yuma, Joe.

As I read your reply, there was another roller. Almost lost half my beer.

Just had another one that lasted almost a minute. Accompanied by rumbling, and swishing sounds. Am in the Holiday Inn in Yuma, a new hotel (supposedly earthquake resistant), and it is taking the hits pretty well.

People have actually come outside with me, and are getting into the pool to enjoy the ride. Probably the top 6 inches of water has sloshed out.

Grew up in SD, never felt one that large. Had to move to Palm Springs to get past the big 5-0!

We were driving home from the beach for the first one, got home and felt the second and third. Nothing had moved in the house but the power was off, we finally went back to the harbor for dinner and the power didn't come in our little area until 2:30 this morning. Most power around here was only off for an hour or so.

It was more of a vibration type of quake here in east San Diego County. Of course we're on bedrock and not in a sedimentary basin that quivers like a bowl of Jello. There have been a bunch lately - more than I remember at any other time. Pat Abbott at SDSU geology dept. said it could either be good news - relieving stress, or bad news - building up stress farther north to lead to a bigger one. I hope it's the former.
