Any sane man would use this as an excuse to buy a Ford 9/2/8 N tractor.

See below!

Sorry I am no big mower expert. But I like your pond. Got any fish in there?

I don't have acreage, nor do I have a reel mower, but if I did, I'd go the Ag exemption route if it at all possible, as red beard said. Rough (GC) mowers are fun, I've had several hours of therapy.

Unfortunately, everyone will be disappointed with their progress after seeing Augusta National this week.

Bunch of Bluegill and 12-14" Smallmouth Bass..... A piece of bread on a hook 2' from shore instantly lands you a Bluegill.... Toss a bigger piece out about 5-6' and you get to watch a big bass latch onto your line. ;) Kids love it!

Before you make an offer, please make sure that the tractor is really what you want.

I have an older, larger MF tractor that I never use because I have two of these (my are 5 years old):

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1270594006.jpg

Both have a 70" belly mower and one has a front end loader. Both can run a smaller bush hog, blades, etc. on the 3 point hitch. Both are 4x4, which in this area you cannot live without. I also use them to drive a PTO drive generator that I plug into the house and run everything except the HVAC. They are simply the best tools I own. Zero problems...one has 670 hours, the other 550.

They are so efficient, powerful and useful that my larger tractor just sits. I am thinking of trading it in for some attachments for the little guys.

Trust me, once you've gone hydrostatic, you never go back.

And before some launches in the green paint verses other tractor diatribe, the MF dealer was 35 miles closer and gave me a screaming deal.

Wayne, I've been doing this for a long time and made many mistakes, better if you can learn from mine. Do not buy that old tractor until you go look at some more modern, smaller units. Kubotas are great as are a whole host of other models. Shop.

Also, you will qualify for the old road diesel price. Find the guy in your area that sells it. Same as regular diesel with road taxes.

Paul, thanks for the information, do you use a side discharge or mulcher for the belly mower. Also, how does the PTO drive generator work, sounds like a good backup.

You are in horse country, get a few. I think the Middleburg area is one of the prettiest parts of Virginia. Congrats! There's a winery not far from you, I forget the name though.

Yep, that's the plan, 2, maybe 3 horses for the kids, a new adventure.

PM me.

Personally, I'd avoid an 8n, get a later Ford with power steering, like a 601. Have a 601 now with the "infamous" Select-O-Speed hydro trans, which I actually like, but if I had the cash I'd have a 4wd Kubota or Manhindra...

Should we just call you the Country Squire? Make sure you get a waxed cotton Barbour jacket and a handsome set of wellies to go with your Range Rover.SmileWavy

I'll also mention.... My dad just bought a Branson (he's a Kubota guy but... long story) used. Its a damn good tractor. Runs smooth... Its a 35hp with front end loader and backhoe. Th backhoe is supposedly quick detach although we haven't tried yet. It had like 16hours and he got it for right around 16k.....
