How OddJob and Dr. Phil spent their Friday!

Well gents, its time. My 911 has been sitting for almost 5 years now. Was in the middle of doing a 3.6 conversion and was laid off, forcing us to put the car together "just well enough" to get it driveable and get it out of the warehouse my boss had been letting me use.

This is what it looked like then:

A couple of Jag's, couple of BMW bikes and one 911. One XJ went in my home garage, one was sold and the 911 went to my flight attendents house. Imagine owning a 3 car garage and not using it? Nope, me neither, so I "borrowed" one slot there. Thanks Trish!

Here was its next resting spot:

I would start the engine from time to time but 4-5 years is not doing it any good. As well the battery finally gave up. Bought a new one and it finally started fine but you could tell it was going to be needing some TLC. Well, where it was going it would get a lot of that!

Enter OddJob from our area and his flatbed trailer. He very nicely offered to help me get the car to a repair shop so I can resume driving the damm car and not just looking at it.

Finally on the trailer and secured:

Making sure its tight.

Here is its new home for the next week or so:

Talked with Jim and worked out a plan. Will have more details sometime this week. Patrick Motorsports is the one who did the excellent job of backdating this 1985 car and if I had not run out of money in 2005 he would have continued working on then. Lets see how far I can get this time!

Thanks OJJ!

Joe A

no problemo dr phil. anytime it was a treat. broke the monotony of the day. still havent bothered to even disconnect the trailer yet.

spent the entire weekend playing "DR.PENTON".

gas tank is on.

worked on wiring

mounted "rarer than hens teeth" original penton speedo/odo had to do some sand blasting/fabbing and paint and of course a run to get metric bolts at ace and more beer.

cables all routed

fuel lines hooked up

re- tapped a pesky seat bolt thread that was stripped

waiting on pro circuit "nature friendly" USFS approved spark arrestor.

waiting on ohlin shocks.

then we pour pre-mix gas(OUTSIDE) and pray to gawd this 38 year old f/glass fuel tank HOLDS FUEL and doesnt leak! and believe me my fingers are crossed on this one.

and then we jet it here at the aeropuerto and its ready to go.

this damn dirt bike was born the same year as my soon to be wifey! hahahahahahaha

Thanks and the biggest step was getting it out of the garage and down to Jims. Now all I have to do is pay for it!

Souk,

I told you to marry that gal years ago, and glad it finally happened!

May still be getting some light units from you guys, just need to save up first!

We should have another Pelican meet in Vegas and get the two of you to come!

Take care,

Joe

Marv,

Know the feeling and my problem is that I no longer have a place to work on the car and it was going to require major work to get up and going again. The engine/gearbox will have to come out again, then a second oil cooler plumbed in up front as well as some more electrical and exhaust issues.

If it were a few hours work I can do that easily but not yanking the engine and gearbox in the place I am now, and the car has been sitting far too long as it is. Time to either do it or sell the car and do not want to get rid of the 911. I can make money easier than I can make time these days so the choice was easy. Course I have not seen the bill either yet!

Joe

And pay plenty for it you will. Why not let the local gang fix it? What does it need?

Way cool!!, that is going to make one sweet little 911. I let my SC sit for 6 years, I finally got it back on the road last fall. Moved my business, nearly went bankrupt, had a kid etc... It feels good. I have a few little projects left on it , and have been working on a 952, but if all goes well, I should be into my 930, early fall. It has also been sitting for 7-8 years, and is going to need a ton of work.
